Getting the best seat

We will always show you the best available seats and if you choose your seat when you book, you will have the most amount of choice available - and yes, we do reserve seats for our most loyal guests and those with special needs.


Sometimes we have to change our aircraft after you have selected your seat

When this is the case, you will be re-seated in your applicable zone or seat you in the same seat, however, we cannot always guarantee this. Our Customer Services teams will strive to seat you in the next best available seat.

More choice at every stage, from booking to departure. 

To make flights as comfortable as possible, we offer eligible guests the opportunity to select a preferred seat before boarding.

Advance seat selection can be made at time of booking online or via our Guest Contact Centre; after a booking has been made via Manage Booking or our Guest Contact Centre; or at the time of check in.

You and your children will always be seated together

At time of booking we will show you all the available seats to choose from, including within preferred zones if you are a Status member of our Velocity program. 

  • If you are travelling in a booking of 3 or more we will assign you the best seats from those remaining 48 hours before your flight time.
  • Selecting seats during check-in, which is available 48 hours prior to departure.

If you can't all be seated together, we’ll ensure each child (under 12) is seated with an adult from your group.

Note: Unfortunately we are unable to offer the above for guests who have purchased tickets in seperate bookings. For the best seats that suit the whole family, ensure you select your seats either via Manage Your Booking prior to your flight or during Check-in. 


To facilitate the comfort of your infant, bassinets are available onboard all our international long haul flights. This is subject to availability. Bassinets are only available on domestic flights operated by A330 aircraft – subject to availability. Our bassinets are designed for infants only, and size and weight restrictions, as recorded in the tables below, apply.

Bassinets are limited, so please request a bassinet for your infant at the time of booking. Pre-allocation of bassinets is on a first come, first served basis. Please contact our Guest Contact Centre to organise this facility.

We have created Platinum, Gold and Silver preferred zones in all our aircraft enabling our frequent flyers to choose the best seats whilst also ensuring all of our Velocity members are offered choice.

For our members we have key timings below to assist you to always get the best seats.

  • Time of booking – we reserve specific zones that are only available for selection for members within the relevant Velocity tiers.
  • 48hrs to departure – we release most of the unused seats in the preferred zones for others members and guests.
  • 12hrs to departure - we release all unused seats in the preferred zones and, were we can, endeavour to provide a spare seat beside our Platinum Velocity members*.

*Subject to operational requirements & not available on all aircraft types in the fleet.


Groups of more than 9 people

When you book, our Groups department will seat you together in the best available seats remaining. As you can appreciate we cannot move other guests who have pre-reserved their seats so book early to ensure we can allocate seats for the whole group together. If you have a Silver, Gold or Platinum Velocity member in the group, up to nine companions can join them in the preferred zone.

We will always assign you the most appropriate seat for your needs and within our safety standards at the time of booking. Please call us to discuss your needs and we will help you reserve a suitable seat.

Choosing your seat during check-in

Our online check-in is available 48 hours prior to departure and this is the best opportunity to choose your preferred seat, buy Extra Legroom from the remaining seats or move to a different seat if you've changed your mind since booking. 

For our regional, turboprop services, we will assign seats before check-in opens and there may be limited options to change seats due to the limited number of seats on these services.

How to Book

At Time of Booking

Secure your preferred seat in advance.

Online: Select an Space+ seat, on the Seating page, during the booking process. Applicable fees will be added to your Booking Summary.

By Phone: Request an Extra Legroom seat when you make a new booking through our Guest Contact Centre.

After Booking

Opt to increase your level of comfort after you have made a booking.

Online: Add Extra Legroom to your booking via our Manage Booking service.

By Phone: Call our Guest Contact Centre and request to add Space+ to your existing booking (subject to the applicable fee). 

What is the Eligibility Criteria?

All Space+ seats are sold subject to availability, eligibility criteria, conditions and Exit Row safety requirements assessed on day of travel.
