• What are the recommended bag drop times?

  Domestic flights	We recommend: You are checked in with bags dropped at least 60 minutes before scheduled departure time. Large groups or guests requiring special assistance checked in at least 60 minutes before scheduled departure time. Check-in will close 30 minutes before departure and you will not be able to check your bags after this time.
  Domestic flights connecting to international flights	We recommend: You are checked in with bags dropped at least 60 minutes before scheduled departure time. Check-in will close 30 minutes before departure and you will not be able to check your bags after this time.
  International flights	We recommend: You are checked in with bags dropped at least 90 minutes before scheduled departure time. Large groups or guests requiring special assistance checked in at least 120 minutes before scheduled departure time. Check-in will close 60 minutes before departure and you will not be able to check your bags after this time.

• What if my bag is overweight?

  If your bag tips the scales over 23kg (up to 32kg), an overweight fee applies at the airport.

• What happens if my bag doesn't arrive?

  If your baggage is delayed, lost, or damaged, please report it to Virgin Australia at the baggage reclaim area before leaving the airport.

  Can’t report it in person? Send us a written report with a completed baggage claim form within the required time limits.

  These timeframes can be short, so get your claim in as soon as possible.

• Can I bring medical equipment?

  Yes. Medical assistance items like CPAP machines, crutches, and similar items are exempt from the usual carry-on baggage restrictions.

  Need to carry sharp items for medical use such as syringes for diabetes? No problem. We have provisions in place so these can travel safely onboard.

• What items must go in carry-on only?

  If you’re travelling with:

  • power banks
  • spare or loose batteries
  • vapes
  • e-cigarettes
  • cordless hair straighteners
  • or wireless earbud charging cases

  these must be packed in your carry-on baggage.

  Also, keep your valuables with you. Items such as:

  • cash
  • medication
  • personal documents
  • and car or house keys

  should not go in checked bags.
