Domestic Connections

If you have connecting Virgin Australia domestic flights – made under a single booking, on the same ticket number – you will be checked through to your final domestic Australian destination at check-in.

You will:

  • Receive a ticket for each leg of your journey.
  • Transfer to connecting flights within domestic airports – check flight information display screens at the airport, or speak to ground crew, for gate information.
  • Collect your checked baggage at your final destination.

If you have connecting flights on separate bookings you will be required to collect your baggage and check in for your next flight at the transfer port.

Note: Formal connections – connecting flights made under a single booking – are considered one flight and cannot be split.

International Connections

The following information is for guests with connections to or from Virgin Australia Domestic flights and International flights operated by Virgin Australia and partner airlines.

Please note, due to current Government border and quarantine restrictions, connecting journeys are subject to new regulations.

All International to Domestic Connections:

All arriving passengers are required to quarantine upon arrival into Australia. This means that you will need to collect your baggage at your international arrival port and follow Government quarantine regulations. You will not be able to connect to a domestic flight upon arrival.

All Domestic to International Connections:

With global restrictions changing constantly, Virgin Australia will not be able to check you and your baggage to your final international destination. At your point of origin, your check-in agent will accept your baggage for the Domestic portion of your journey only.  When you arrive at your departure port for your international journey, you should collect your baggage from the domestic baggage carrousel and proceed to the International Terminal to check in for your international journey. Please allow enough time to transfer between terminals and check with your international airline regarding their requirements for check in time and required permits for travel.

Once Government restrictions ease, Virgin Australia will be happy to re-instate the below procedures for International Connections:
