Monday, 24 March 2025: Virgin Australia was the country’s most punctual and reliable major Australian airline[1] for the third consecutive month in February, according to the latest on-time performance (OTP) data released by the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) today.
Virgin Australia completed 98.5% of an average 378 daily scheduled domestic flights during the month and achieved a departure OTP of 82.9% – marking the airline’s highest OTP in the last two years and exceeding the long-term average departure OTP for all domestic airlines of 81.8%[2].
This performance outpaced other major Australian airlines, earning Virgin Australia the lowest cancellation rate and highest OTP for February, while operating the highest number of average daily scheduled domestic flights of any airline during the month.
Commentary attributable to Virgin Australia General Manager Integrated Operations Centre, Danny Norman:
“We’re proud to achieve our third consecutive month of industry-leading reliability, while scheduling and operating more daily flights on average than any other Australian carrier in February,” Mr Norman said.
“We’ve been working hard to improve our operational performance over the past 12 months, and achieving our strongest OTP of the past two years and exceeding the long-term average reflects this hard work.
“While factors like weather will sometimes require unplanned changes to our schedule, getting our guests to their destinations safely and on time is a priority.”
