Domestic Connections
If you have connecting Virgin Australia domestic flights – made under a single booking, on the same ticket number – you will be checked through to your final domestic Australian destination at check-in.
You will:
- Receive a ticket for each leg of your journey.
- Transfer to connecting flights within domestic airports – check flight information display screens at the airport, or speak to ground crew, for gate information.
- Collect your checked baggage at your final destination.
If you have connecting flights on separate bookings you will be required to collect your baggage and check in for your next flight at the transfer port.
Note: Formal connections – connecting flights made under a single booking – are considered one flight and cannot be split.
International Connections
The following information is for guests with connections to or from Virgin Australia Domestic flights and International flights operated by Virgin Australia and partner airlines.

Please note, due to current Government border and quarantine restrictions, some connecting journeys are subject to new regulations.
All International to Domestic connections:
All arriving passengers into Australia will need to collect your baggage at your international arrival port and clear Customs and Quarantine. Once cleared, please proceed to the international arrivals hall and follow the marked signs to the domestic terminal for your domestic flight.
All Domestic to International connections:
Connections from Virgin Australia domestic flights to an international Virgin Australia flight:
Virgin Australia will be able to check you and your baggage to your final international destination. At your point of origin, your check-in agent will accept your baggage and print boarding passes for all Virgin Australia flights. When you arrive at your departure port for your international journey, please allow enough time to transfer between terminals.
Connections from Virgin Australia domestic flights to an international flight operated by a partner airline:
With global restrictions changing constantly, Virgin Australia will only be able to check your baggage to your final international destination. At your point of origin, your check-in agent will accept your baggage and check you in for the domestic portion of the journey only. When you arrive at your departure port for your international journey, you should proceed to the International Terminal to check in for your international journey.
Please allow enough time to transfer between terminals and check with your international airline regarding their requirements for check in time and required permits for travel.

Sydney
Sydney: International to Domestic
On arrival of your international flight, you are required to collect your bags from the carousel and clear Customs and Quarantine.
Once you have cleared Customs and Quarantine, follow the signs to the Virgin Australia transfer desk, located in the Arrivals Hall. The transfer desk will check you in for your domestic flight and accept your baggage. You can then follow the marked signs to the T-Bus pickup location for your connection to the domestic terminal.Sydney: Domestic to International
When you check in at a domestic port with connection via Sydney, your bags will be checked through to your final destination and you may receive a boarding pass for your international flight. Upon arriving in Sydney, make your way to the T-Bus pickup, located outside on the arrivals level. The T- Bus will take you to the International Terminal (T1).
If you are already holding a boarding pass for your international flight, you can proceed directly to Customs and Immigration. If you are not holding a boarding pass, you need to proceed to the check in counter of the airline operating your international flight.

Brisbane
Brisbane: International to Domestic
On arrival of your international flight, you are required to collect your bags from the carousel and clear Customs and Quarantine.
Once in the Arrivals Hall, turn right and proceed to the Domestic Transfer Desk. Here, you can check in your bags and receive a boarding pass if you are not holding one already. Upon arriving at the Domestic Terminal, make your way to your departure gate.
Brisbane: Domestic to International
When you check in at a domestic port with connection via Brisbane, your bags will be checked through to your final destination and you may receive a boarding pass for your international flight. Upon arriving in Brisbane, proceed to the ground floor and walk outside the Virgin Australia Terminal, follow the Terminal Transfer Bus or Airtrain signage as appropriate.

Melbourne
Melbourne: International to Domestic
On arrival of your international flight, you are required to collect your bags from the carousel and clear Customs and Quarantine.
Melbourne’s International and Domestic terminals are connected; after entering the Arrivals Hall, turn right and make your way upstairs to the first floor to Virgin Australia check in area to check in your bags and receive boarding pass for your domestic flight if you are not holding one already.Melbourne: Domestic to International
When you check in at a domestic port with connection via Melbourne, your bags will be checked through to your final destination.
Melbourne’s Domestic and International terminals are connected, so on arrival in Melbourne exit the domestic terminal area and follow signs to the adjacent international terminal.
If you are already holding a boarding pass for your international flight, you can proceed directly to Customs and Immigration. If you are not holding a boarding pass, you need to proceed to the check in counter of the airline operating your international flight. -
Perth
Perth: International to Domestic
On arrival of your international flight, you are required to collect your bags from the carousel and clear Customs and Quarantine.
Immediately after Quarantine, please exit into the arrivals hall and check your itinerary to determine if your onward flight is departing from Terminal 1 (T1) Domestic or Terminal 2 (T2) Regional Domestic.For flights departing from T1 Domestic, please turn right whilst still in the international arrivals hall and follow the terminal signs to the Domestic check-in hall. Once in the Domestic check-in hall, please proceed to the International Connections counter.
If your flight is departing from T2, please exit the T1 International Terminal, turn right and follow airport signs to T2 Regional Domestic Terminal. Upon entry into the terminal, please see a Virgin Australia team member for assistance.
Perth: Domestic to International
When you check in at a domestic port with a connection via Perth, your bags will be checked through to your final destination and you may receive a boarding pass for your international flight.
If arriving in Perth via the T1 Domestic Terminal, please disembark the aircraft and proceed along the concourse and down the escalators into the arrivals hall. Upon exiting the arrivals hall, please turn left and follow signs to T1 International Terminal.
If arriving in Perth via the T2 Regional Domestic Terminal, please disembark the aircraft exit the terminal, turn left and follow airport signs to T1 International Terminal.
If you are already holding a boarding pass for your international flight, you can proceed directly to Customs and Immigration at T1 International terminal. If you are not holding a boarding pass, you need to proceed to the check in counter of the airline operating your international flight.

Cairns
Cairns: International to Domestic
On arrival of your international flight, you are required to collect your bags from the carousel and clear customs / quarantine and immigration.
Please exit into the arrivals hall and follow the signage to the Domestic Terminal. This will be via a covered walkway.
Once in the domestic check-in hall, please proceed to the bag drop counter to drop your bags for your domestic flight.
Once you have dropped your bags please continue through security and head to your departure gate for your domestic flight.
Cairns: Domestic to International
When you check in at a domestic port with a connection via Cairns, your bags will be checked through to your final destination and you may receive a boarding pass for your international flight.
When arriving into Cairns via the domestic terminal, please disembark the aircraft and follow the signage to the arrivals hall. Upon exiting the arrivals hall, please turn left and follow the signs to T1 International Terminal.
If you are already holding a boarding pass for your international flight, you can proceed directly to Customs and Immigration at T1 International terminal. If you are not holding a boarding pass, you need to proceed to the check in counter of the airline operating your international flight.
