Virgin Australia ground crew will require you to show all relevant travel documents at check-in. This will include a passport and may include a visa and proof of onward travel.
Guests are solely responsible for obtaining all travel documents and for complying with all laws, regulations, orders and travel requirements of countries to be flown from, into or over. The airline may refuse to carry you if we reasonably believe you will be refused entry to the destination country. General information on passports and visas may be found at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website.
ESTA - Electronic System for Travel Authorisation
The United States government introduced a mandatory Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) effective from 12 January 2009, which applies to all Australian passport holders visiting or transiting the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. Holding an ESTA is mandatory for all eligible Visa Waiver Program travellers to the United States.
From 4 September 2010, the United States government will charge a US$21 as payment for the mandatory ESTA for all individuals proposing to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. The fee is payable by credit or debit card and, it is very important to make payments through the official website.
If you are eligible and wish to travel under the Visa Waiver Program, you must “pre-register” your intention to enter the USA at least 72 hours prior to your scheduled departure
Additional guest information
There is some additional information guests need to provide at check-in when travelling to the United States of America. You will need to provide Virgin Australia ground crew and Customs officers with a contact address where you can be reached during the first night of your stay in the United States of America. Be sure to have the address written down and ready to present when required.
