These terms and conditions apply and are accepted by you when you choose to use Fly Ahead and are in addition to Virgin Australia’s Conditions of Carriage, Terms of Use, Fare Rules and Privacy Policy. These terms and conditions apply in conjunction with the Seat Selection Terms and Conditions, Preferred Seating Terms and Conditions, or Economy X Terms and Conditions (whichever is relevant to the product eligible guests purchased). 

1. Fly Ahead on Flex 

 

Eligibility 

1.1 Fly Ahead is available to guests travelling on a confirmed Virgin Australia marketed and operated domestic flight who have purchased an Economy Flex fare (Eligible Guest).  

1.2 Fly Ahead may also be available to eligible Velocity Frequent Flyer members in accordance with the Velocity membership terms and conditions. 

1.3 Fly Ahead is available to the Eligible Guest and up to three accompanying guests travelling on the same booking, provided all guests hold confirmed seats on the same Virgin Australia marketed and operated domestic flight.  

1.4 Fly Ahead is not available to Eligible Guests travelling on: 
a) staff travel bookings; or 
b) group bookings.  

Fly Ahead Requests 

1.5 Eligible Guests may request, on the day of travel, to be moved to an earlier Virgin Australia marketed and operated domestic flight operating on the same route and on the same day as their original booked flight (Fly Ahead). 

1.6 Fly Ahead requests: 

a) are subject to availability and operational requirements which are controlled by Virgin Australia; 

b) are not guaranteed; and 

c) may be unavailable even where seats are available for sale on an earlier flight.  

1.7 Fly Ahead may only be requested: 
a) on Virgin Australia marketed and operated domestic flights (including domestic flights operated on behalf of Virgin Australia e.g., Alliance Airlines); 
b) for travel on the same route as the original booking; and 
c) on the same day as their original booking. 

1.8 Other guests on the earlier Virgin Australia flight will not be removed from the relevant flight to accommodate a Fly Ahead request. 

1.9 Fly Ahead is not available on: 
a) Virgin Australia marketed and operated short-haul international flights; or 
b) Virgin Australia flights to Doha (operated by Qatar Airways on behalf of Virgin Australia). 

1.10 Eligible Guests may request Fly Ahead: 
a) via the Virgin Australia app; or 
b) with a Virgin Australia team member at domestic bag drop at the airport. 

1.11 Requests made via the Virgin Australia app must be made at least 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time of the desired earlier flight, while the flight is still open for check-in. 

1.12 Eligible Guests may request Fly Ahead via the app:  

a) on flights between Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne departing up to two hours prior to their original booked flight; or  

b) for all other domestic Virgin Australia flights, on the first available flight prior to their original booked flight.  

1.13 Requests made at the airport with a Virgin Australia staff member must be made at least 40 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time of the desired earlier flight, while the flight is still open for check-in. 

1.14 Eligible Guests with Specific Service Requests may request Fly Ahead by calling the Guest Contact Centre at least 60 minutes prior, or with a Virgin Australia team member at the airport at least 40 minutes prior, to the scheduled departure time of the desired earlier flight, while the flight is still open for check-in. 

1.14 If a Fly Ahead request is granted, any subsequent changes will be subject to the applicable Fare Rules.  

2. Baggage and Connecting Flights 

2.1 Fly Ahead cannot be requested if the Eligible Guest has already checked in their baggage.  

2.2 Fly Ahead may be requested at a mid-way point of a connecting journey provided: 
a) the request is made at least 60 minutes before the desired earlier connecting flight’s scheduled departure time; and 
b) the Eligible Guest has not checked in baggage. 

2.3 If the original flight is a connecting flight, Eligible Guests may be offered a non-stop flight if there is availability. Velocity Frequent Flyer members will earn Status Credits and Points based on the route travelled.  

3. Seat Selection 

3.1 Eligible Guests can only request to move to an earlier flight where an Economy seat is available for Fly Ahead. 

3.2 Seating options on the earlier flight are subject to availability at the time the Fly Ahead request is made. Virgin Australia cannot guarantee the same seat or paid seat selection as the original flight.  

3.3 If a Fly Ahead request is granted and an Eligible Guest and their accompanying guests (if applicable) select a seat of a lower value than originally purchased, the Eligible Guest (and their accompanying guests) won’t receive any type of refund (e.g. monetary, Points or Status Credits), unless they are entitled to a refund under the Australian Consumer Law.  

3.4 We will endeavour to accommodate your seat selection. However, we cannot guarantee that you will be provided with your selected seat. We may change your seat at any time, even after you have boarded the aircraft for any reason, including for safety or operational reasons.   

4. General  

4.1 You have certain rights under the Australian Consumer Law. These include Consumer Guarantees that the services we provide to you will be carried out by us with due care and skill, will be fit for purpose and will be supplied within a reasonable time. You may have rights to seek a remedy from us when we fail to provide services to you in accordance with the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms and conditions affects those rights or any other statutory rights you may have under applicable laws (including the Australian Consumer Law) that cannot be excluded. 

4.2 Virgin Australia may modify and change these terms and conditions from time to time. The terms and conditions which apply to your earlier flight are those in effect at the date of purchase, as published on our website.  

4.3 These Terms and Conditions are subject to Virgin Australia's Conditions of Carriage and any applicable laws, including the Australian Consumer Law.
