Vaccination exemptions
Arriving in Australia
If you’re an Australian citizen, permanent resident or visa holder travelling to Australia, and you can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons, you’ll need to check the border entry requirements in the state or territory you’re travelling to. You’ll need to provide an Immunisation History Statement issued by the Australian Government, or you have other evidence in line with government requirements that show medical contraindications to COVID-19 vaccines. . The Australian Department of Health advises that previous infection with COVID-19 is not considered a medical contraindication for COVID-19 vaccination.
Departing Australia
If you’re an Australian citizen, permanent resident or visa holder departing Australia, and you can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons, you’ll need to present your Australian COVID-19 digital certificate or immunisation history statement to prove your contraindication (these may indicate a ‘valid to’ date).
