The information below sets out change rules that are applicable for all bookings including those made using Velocity Points + Pay. If you make changes to your upcoming flight, the below change fees may apply.
When bookings are created using a combination of fares from different fare types, the rules of the most restrictive fare will apply to the whole booking. Some fare rules are different for bookings made using Velocity Points + Pay. These conditions are listed below.

Carry-on baggage that exceeds the carry-on weight and size limits listed above are not permitted because they pose a safety risk and may cause injury to our guests and team members. Baggage that exceeds the carry-on limits will need to be checked into the aircraft’s hold and will be available for collection at the baggage carousel at your destination. Baggage charges may apply.

The importation of alcohol into the State of Qatar is illegal. If you plan to break your journey or your trip ends in Doha please ensure that you review the security and customs guide for entry into the State of Qatar. You will not be permitted to purchase alcohol from duty free at the airport and carry on to the aircraft.
Guests transiting from Australia through Doha may carry alcohol in checked baggage any alcohol purchased at airport duty free stores is permitted in carry-on baggage.
Baggage allowance for guests traveling on flights to / from these destinations is calculated in total weight. Multiple pieces of checked allowance are allowed but the total weight must not exceed 32kg (70lb) per bag for safety reasons.

In the event of a disruption to a Virgin Australia flight operated by Qatar Airways (flight numbers VA1 to VA29), either Virgin Australia or Qatar Airways will assist you with alternative flight options, depending on the time to your departure.
If we cancel your flight, we will move you to the next available Virgin Australia flight to the same destination without charge.
If the new flight time is not suitable to you, we may transfer you to a service operated by another carrier to your original destination, subject to your agreement.
If we cannot make suitable alternative arrangements, you may request a travel credit or a refund of the price you paid for your impacted flight by contacting our Guest Contact Centre or your travel agent. Travel credits will be valid for 12 months from the date of issue (excluding USA flight bookings). For bookings with a flight into, out of or within the USA, you can request this refund online by following the prompts in the email or SMS you receive about the change or cancellation (or via your travel agent if this is how you booked). Travel credits for bookings with a USA flight will be valid for five years from the date of issue. All travel credits will be subject to additional terms and conditions.
Online check-in is available for journeys that commence in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney and opens at 48 hours prior to departure (unless you are traveling on to the USA in which case it will open at 24 hours prior to departure).
If your journey is eligible for online check-in you will be able to check-in via Qatar Airways' website. Once check-in is open for your trip, you will receive a check-in reminder email (to your designated email address) and the Virgin Australia App will prompt you to check-in online.
Guests with a domestic or short haul international Virign Australia flight connecting to one of Virgin Australia's international flights to Doha, Qatar in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth, will need to proceed to the airport to check-in.

You will be checked-in and receive a boarding pass for your domestic flight only and your bags will be checked through to your final destination. Upon arrival in Brisbane, Perth, Sydney or Melbourne please proceed to the Qatar Airways check-in area located in the international terminal (please refer to the “Checking in from a main hub” section below) to check-in and collect your onward boarding pass(es). |
Short haul international |
You will be checked-in and receive a boarding pass for your flight to Australia only, your bags will be checked through to your final destination. Upon arrival into Australia, please proceed to the international transit desk within the international terminal to be checked-in for your international journey and collect your onward boarding pass(es). You do not need to collect your bags. If you have an extended wait between flights, note that you can only exit the airport and enter Australia if you meet the Travel and entry requirements. |
Airport check-in opens 3.5 hours prior to departure and closes 1 hour prior to departure. When arriving at the airport please always ensure that you are checking the airport display screens for check-in information.
Arrive at the Brisbane International terminal least 3 hours prior to departure and proceed to the Qatar Airways check-in zone. You can complete check-in or print your bag tags via the co-branded Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways kiosks.
Arrive at Melbourne International terminal (Terminal 2) at least 3 hours prior to departure. As Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia desks are located in close proximity to each other please ensure you proceed to the Qatar Airways check-in zone to check in and bag drop.
The domestic and international terminals at Perth airport are connected, ensure that you are at the international section of the terminal and proceed to the co-branded Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways kiosks to check-in. Check-in is also available via the Qatar Airways check-in counters.
Arrive at Sydney International terminal (Terminal 1) at least 3 hours prior to departure and proceed to the Qatar Airways check-in counters to check in and bag drop.
On your return to Australia, online check-in will be made available for all journey types through Qatar Airways 48 hours prior to departure (unless you are departing from the USA in which case it will open 24 hours prior to departure): Qatar Airways online check-in.
If you are departing from Doha, check-in counters for Economy guests are located in the main terminal please check the departure boards for which zone and row. Business class guests may check-in at the Al Mourjan Business premium check-in (Row 2, Desk 9).
For all guests arriving into Australia and transferring to a domestic flight via Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Perth, you will be required to collect your bags and pass through customs and immigration before rechecking your bags for your onward flight.
All guests require a passport for international travel, regardless of your destination.
You also must ensure that your passport is in good condition. Normal wear and tear should not be a problem, but more serious damage can stop you from travelling.
If your Australian passport has some damage, visit the Australian Passport Office’s website for more information about whether it can still be used. If you are travelling on a foreign passport, please contact your local consular office for guidance.
We recommend checking the latest travel info and advice before you fly. You can find out what you need to know from the Australian Government on the Department of Home Affairs, Department of Health and Smartraveller websites. Guests are solely responsible for obtaining all travel documents and for complying with all laws, regulations, orders and travel requirements of countries to be flown from, into or over.
Guests without a ‘M’ or ‘F’ gender marker specified on their passport may be refused transit or entry by immigration authorities in certain destinations, including in Qatar. Please plan your travel with this in mind if this applies to you. You can contact the nearest embassy, high commission or consulate of your destination, or refer to the Australian Government's Smartraveller website, for additional information.
