Fees and surcharge overview
Below is an explanation of all optional Fees and Surcharges that may apply when booking with and travelling on Virgin Australia.
Booking and service fees
Payments by credit card, debit card and PayPal attract a Booking and Service Fee when booked via www.virginaustralia.com or through the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre which will be added to the total price of your fare when you select your credit card type on the payment screen. Amount is charged per person, per booking excluding infants. Fee is not charged for bookings in USD.
The Booking and Service fee covers a range of costs, activities, fees and charges in relation to the booking, including (among other things) the reasonable costs of accepting card payments.
Change and cancellation fees
Depending on the fare rules which apply to your booking, you may have to pay change or cancellation fees if you wish to change or cancel your booking. Change and cancellations fees are charged per person, per booking.

Guest Contact Centre fees
You will have to pay a service fee if you call Virgin Australia's Guest Contact Centre to make, change or cancel a booking. You do not have to pay a booking fee if you make a booking on Virgin Australia's website.

Any single piece of checked baggage must not exceed the maximum weight and dimensions detailed under Oversize and Fragile Pieces. Any piece that does exceed these restrictions must be sent as freight. In these circumstances we recommend that you contact a local freight forwarder who will be able to advise what options are available to you.
Extra legroom charges
Guests can purchase extra legroom seating for domestic Australia and international short-haul flights. Further details can be found on the extra legroom page. Charges are outlined below.
Domestic Australia and International Short-Haul flights
For an additional charge, guests can reserve extra legroom seating in the exit rows of our 737, A320 and Fokker 100 aircraft which offers a minimum of 38 inch pitch.
International Long-Haul flights
Extra Legroom seating is available in the Economy cabin on all Virgin Australia operated flights.

Insurance fees and surcharges
Travel insurance charges are based on a number of variables, such as destination, duration of travel and the type of cover. For a detailed quote, please visit Virgin Australia's comprehensive insurance provider.
Carbon offset charges
Carbon offset charges vary from flight to flight. If you would like to offset your flight, all you have to do is click on the option add a Carbon Offset to your booking while on the Travel Extras page when making your booking via our website. Once added this will advise you of the emissions associated with your flight and the cost of offsetting these emissions.
Government-imposed taxes, fees and charges
The price of Your Ticket may include taxes, fees and charges that are imposed on air transportation by government authorities. They may represent a significant portion of the cost of air travel and are either included in the fare, or shown separately in the “TAX/FEE/CHARGE” box(es) of Your Ticket.
You may also be required to pay taxes or fees or charges not already collected.
Food and beverage
Depending on the fare type, cabin class and route booked Virgin Australia offer a range of food and beverage choices on services.
