Virgin Australia AFL Big Prize Draw Competition (the Promotion)
A. General
1. The terms of this document, information on how to enter this Promotion, mechanics of entry and details of the Prize(s) as set out in Section D form part of the terms and conditions for entry into this Promotion (Terms and Conditions). Entry into this Promotion is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions by each Entrant.
2. Entry is open to all Australian residents aged 12 years and older who have a valid Velocity membership (Entrant).
3. Entrants under 18 years old must have parental/guardian approval to enter and further, the parent/guardian of the Entrant must read and consent to these Terms and Conditions. Parents/guardians may be required by the Promoter to enter into a further agreement as evidence of consent to the minor entering this Promotion.
4. The Promoter is Virgin Australia Airlines Pty Ltd (ABN 36 090 670 965) of registered address 275 Grey Street, South Brisbane, Queensland, 4101.
5. The directors, officers, management, and employees (and their immediate families) of the Promoter and its related bodies corporate and agencies associated with this Promotion are not eligible to enter this Promotion. Immediate family means any of the following: spouse, ex-spouse, de-facto spouse, child or stepchild (whether natural or by adoption), parent, stepparent, grandparent, step-grandparent, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, brother, sister, stepbrother, step-sister or 1st cousin.
6. The Promotion commences on Friday, 20 December 2024 and ends at 1:00pm AEST on Monday 1 September 2025 (Promotion Period).
B. Entry
7. An Entrant will automatically be entered into the Promotion, if an Entrant , during the Promotion Period, books any Australian domestic flight with Virgin Australia in the name of the Entrant via https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/book/afl-competition (Eligible Flight).
8. To be eligible for the bonus prize, the Winner must provide proof of being a valid member of an AFL Club at the time of being notified they are a Winner.
9. Multiple entries permitted, subject to the following: (a) only one (1) entry permitted per Eligible Flight; and (b) each entry must be submitted separately and in accordance with the entry requirements.
10. The use of any automated entry software or any other mechanical or electronic means that allows an Entrant to automatically enter repeatedly is prohibited and will render all entries submitted by that Entrant invalid.
11. Entries will be deemed accepted at the time of receipt by the Promoter and not at the time of transmission. Entries received will be considered final by the Promoter. Illegible, incomprehensible and incomplete entries will be deemed invalid. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any late, lost, incomplete, incorrectly submitted, delayed, illegible, corrupted or misdirected entries, claims or correspondence whether due to error, omission, alteration, tampering, deletion, theft, destruction or otherwise including those entries not received by the Promoter.
12. If an Entrant does not wish to participate in Promotion, they can be removed by emailing social.media@virginaustralia.com.
13. Costs associated with entering the Promotion remain an Entrant’s responsibility and may vary.
C. Drawing Winners
14. The draw will be conducted by the Promoter on Wednesday 3 September 2025 at 1:00pm AEST at the Promoter’s registered office. All decisions of the Promoter are final, and no discussions or correspondence will be entered into by the Promoter. The Promoter may draw additional reserve entries and record them in order, in case an invalid entry or ineligible Entrant is drawn.
15. The winners (Winners) will be notified via phone call within one (1) business day of the draw and in writing within two (2) business days of the draw and their details (last name, first initial and postcode) will be published at https://competitions.virginaustralia.com/competition/big-afl-prize-draw on Friday 5 September 2025.
16. If a Prize is not claimed by 1:00pm AEST Wednesday 17 September 2025, a redraw will occur. A draw for any unclaimed Prizes may take place on Wednesday 17 September 2025 at 1:00pm AEST at the same place as the original draw, subject to any directions from a regulatory authority.
17. The redrawn Winner(s), if any, will be notified via phone call within one (1) business day of the draw and in writing within two (2) business days of the draw and their details (last name, first initialandpostcode)will be published at https://competitions.virginaustralia.com/competition/big-afl-prize-draw on Friday 19 September 2025. If the redrawn Winner does not claim a Prize by 1:00pm AEST Wednesday 1 October 2025, the Prize will be forfeited by the relevant Winner.
18. Entries not fully complying with these Terms and Conditions may be deemed invalid at the Promoter’s discretion. If a winning entry is deemed not to comply with these Terms and Conditions, the entry will be discarded, and the relevant Prize will be re-awarded in accordance with the relevant clause of these Terms and Conditions as if the discarded entry had not been received.
19. This is a game of chance. Skill plays no part in determining the outcome.
D. Prize(s)
20. The first valid entry drawn will win a 2025 Toyota AFL Grand Final prize package for two (2) people, valued at up to $12,000. Prize package to include:
o 2 x 2025 Toyota AFL Grand Final GA tickets;
o A pre match experience (on field walk) on the MCG for two people on Grand Final Day;
o 2 x Virgin Australia return Business Class flights to Melbourne from the Winner’s closest port serviced by Virgin Australia;
o One night’s accommodation at an Accor Hotel in Melbourne for two people (subject to the hotel booking terms & conditions); and
o 1 x $250 eftpos gift card (subject to the gift card redemption terms & conditions)
21. The next valid entry drawn will win return Business Class flights with Virgin Australia for two (2) people anywhere on the Virgin Australia short haul international network, valued at up to $1,500.
22. The next valid entry drawn will win two general admission tickets to the 2025 Toyota AFL Grand Final, valued at $1,000. This Prize does not include flights or transport and the Winner will be responsible for the costs associated with traveling to the 2025 Toyota AFL Grand Final.
23. If any valid Winner provides proof (AFL membership number) that they are a current member of an AFL Club, in addition to the relevant prize set out above, that Winner will also be provided a signed team guernsey from any AFL team chosen by the Winner, valued at $1,500.
24. At the end of the Promotion Period, the Promoter will allocate 1 Million Velocity Points equally between all Entrants who hold and entry in the Promotion, valued at up to $30,000. The number of Velocity Points allocated to each Entrant will depend on the number of Entrants that participate in the Promotion during the Promotion Period. No part Velocity Points will be awarded. If the number of Velocity Points awarded is a decimal, the Velocity Points awarded will be rounded down to the next whole number. In the event there are over 1 million valid entries submitting into this Promotion, the number of Velocity Points available will be increased accordingly to ensure an equal allocation of Velocity Points to all valid Entrants.
25. Total Prize value is up to $49,000.00 AUD. Winners may not substitute, assign, exchange, transfer or redeem a Prize for cash.
26. The 2025 Toyota AFL Grand Final ticket prizes are subject to the event venue and ticket terms and conditions, including any applicable age restriction. The Promoter and event organisers hereby expressly reserve the right to eject any Winner (and/or their companion/s) for any inappropriate behaviour, including but not limited to intoxication, whilst participating in any element of the Prize.
27. If a Prize (or part of a Prize) is unavailable, the Promoter, in its discretion, reserves the right to substitute that Prize (or that part of the Prize) with a Prize to the equal value and/or specification, subject to any written directions from a regulatory authority.
28. If a Winner is under 18 years of age, they must be accompanied by a parent/guardian whilst participating in any activity which forms part of, or redeeming any part of, a Prize.
29. The Velocity Points will be credited to Entrant’s accounts within four (4) weeks from the end of the Promotion Period. Use of Velocity Points is subject to the Velocity Membership Terms and Conditions, which are located on the Velocity Frequent Flyer website at: https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/TermsConditions/. Velocity Points will be allocated to the Velocity Member’s Account only.
30. Flights included as part of a Prize are subject to Virgin Australia’s Conditions of Carriage available at https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/about-us/policies/legal/conditions-of-carriage. Flight Certificate, fare rules and other policies will be made available to you and can be found on the Virgin Australia website. on the Virgin Australia website. Flight Certificate and fare rules will include without limitation provisions regarding (i) when flights can be used; (ii) any blackout periods and (iii) flight change rules and costs. The Prize flights will not earn Velocity Points.
31. Winners are responsible for all other expenses including, but not limited to, any travel to Melbourne or to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, accommodation, spending money, meals, drinks, transfers, laundry charges, activities, incidentals, taxes, energy surcharges, gratuities, service charges, travel insurance and all other ancillary costs. Travel insurance is highly recommended to protect against the additional costs incurred in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
32. The Promoter makes no representation as to the safety, conditions or other issues that may exist at any destination or as part of a Prize.
33. Prizes must be taken by the date(s) specified in the Prize, where applicable. Prizes will be awarded to the Entrants named in the entry.
E. Contacting the Entrant
34. By entering this Promotion, Entrants agree to be contacted in relation to this Promotion by the Promoter. Should an Entrant’s contact details change during the Promotion Period, it is the Entrant’s responsibility to notify the Promoter. A request to access or modify any information provided in an entry should be directed to the Promoter.
35. The Promoter reserves the right to request that a Winner provides proof of identity, proof of age, proof of residency and/or proof of entry validity in order to claim a Prize. Proof of identification, residency, age and entry considered suitable for verification is at the discretion of the Promoter. In the event that a Winner cannot provide suitable proof, the Winner will forfeit the Prize in whole and no substitute will be offered.
F. Intellectual Property
36. Entrants consent to the Promoter using their name, likeness, image and/or voice in the event they are a Winner (including photograph, film and/or recording of the same) in any media for an unlimited period without remuneration for the purpose of promoting this Promotion (including any outcome), and promoting any products manufactured, distributed and/or supplied by the Promoter.
G. Privacy
37. The Promoter is collecting the Entrant’s personal information for the purpose of conducting the Promotion, including providing any Prize to the Entrant. If the Promoter cannot collect the Entrant’s personal information, the Entrant may not be able to enter the Promotion or if the Entrant is the Winner, the Entrant will not be able to receive the Prize. The Promoter may disclose the Entrant’s personal information to persons or organisations located in overseas countries, as described in the Promoter’s Privacy Policy. The Promoter’s Privacy Policy (www.virginaustralia.com/privacy) also states how the Entrant can seek to access or correct the Entrant’s personal information and how to make a privacy complaint. The Entrant can contact the Virgin Australia Privacy Officer at privacy@virginaustralia.com.
38. Entrant’s personal information may be disclosed to State and Territory lottery departments and Winners’ names published as required under the relevant lottery legislation. A request to access, update or correct any information should be directed to the Promoter.
I. Tax
39. The Promoter will not be liable for any tax liability, including without limitation income tax, fringe benefits tax, or any liability or loss of opportunity due to reportable fringe benefits, incurred by a Winner, an Entrant, their employer and/or another party in regard to any connection with participating in the Promotion or the receipt or use of any Prize.
40. Entrants, the Winner and/or another party will be required to pay any taxes and other airport related charges (including any applicable GST on those taxes and charges) which may be due on receipt or use of the Prize.
41. Entrants should seek independent financial advice to ensure they understand possible tax implications in relation to any tax liability and/or reportable fringe benefits before acceptance or use of a Prize.
42. The Promoter does not accept responsibility for and makes no representations about any tax liability as a result of participating in the Promotion or from receiving or using any of the Prize.
43. The Promoter, its agents and associate companies are not responsible for and exclude all liability (including negligence), for any variation in the Prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions.
J. Legal
44. The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any Entrant who in the opinion of the Promoter tampers with the entry process, who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or who has, in the opinion of the Promoter, engaged in conduct in entering the Promotion which is fraudulent, misleading, deceptive or generally damaging to the goodwill or reputation of the Promotion and/or the Promoter. The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify a Winner if the Promoter becomes aware that the Winner and/or the Winner’s entry is of a type described in this clause. Any Entrant disqualified under this clause is prohibited from any further participation in the Promotion. Errors and omissions may be accepted at the Promoter's discretion. Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights. The Promoter's legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an offender are reserved.
45. If there is a dispute as to the identity of an Entrant, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to determine the identity of the Entrant.
46. In the case of the intervention of any outside act, agent or event which prevents or significantly hinders the Promoter’s ability to proceed with the Promotion on the dates and in the manner described in these Terms and Conditions, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strike, war, act of terrorism, the Promoter may in its absolute discretion cancel the Promotion and recommence it from the start on the same conditions, subject to any written directions from a regulatory authority.
47. If for any reason this Promotion is not capable of running as planned, including due to infection by computer virus, communications network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failure or any causes beyond the control of the Promoter, which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or integrity or proper conduct of this Promotion, the Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, take any action that may be available and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Promotion, or invalidate any affected entries, subject to any written direction from a regulatory authority.
48. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits, excludes or modifies or purports to limit, exclude or modify the statutory consumer guarantees as provided under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), as well as any other implied warranties under the ASIC Act 2001 (Cth) in Australia, or similar consumer protection laws in the State and Territories of Australia (Non-Excludable Guarantees). The Promoter and its associated agencies and companies (and their respective officers, employees and agents) exclude all liability (including negligence) except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, including the Non-Excludable Guarantees, for any direct, indirect or consequential injury, loss and/or damage arising in any way in connection with this Promotion or the Prize. This includes, but is not limited to:
(a) technical malfunctions, delays or failures, including those resulting from accessing any materials related to this promotion and any incorrect or inaccurate or incomplete information communicated in the course of, or in connection with, this Promotion as a result of any technical malfunctions, delays or failures;
(b) theft, unauthorised access or third party interference;
(c) lost or damaged entries, Prize claims or Prizes;
(d) any variation in Prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions; and
(e) acceptance and/or use of any Prize (including but not limited to any component of a Winner’s attendance at the 2025 Toyota AFL Grand Final).
49. The Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who the Promoter has reason to believe has breached any of these Terms and Conditions or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of this Promotion. Any Entrant disqualified under this clause is prohibited from any further participation in the Promotion. The Promoter’s legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an offender are reserved.
50. The Promoter and their associated agencies and companies assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, internet failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to, or alteration of entries, and reserves the right to take any action that may be available.
51. These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia.
