No change or cancellation fees
Change or cancel to travel credit and we’ll waive the fees for travel up to 30 April 2022. Changes must be made prior to travel date. Fare differences may apply. Cancellations with refund to other forms of payment as per fare rules.
The information below sets out the specific fare rules, inclusions, fees and surcharges for each fare type. These are in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Fare flexibility
The information below sets out change and cancellation rules that are applicable for all bookings including those made using Future Flight credits and Velocity Points + Pay.
When bookings are created using a combination of fares from different fare types, the rules of the most restrictive fare will apply to the whole booking.
Some fare rules are different for bookings made using Future Flight credits or Velocity Points + Pay and these are indicated below.
- If payment made with Future Flight credits
- If payment made with Velocity Points
Bookings made using Future Flight credits are also subject to the Future Flight Credits Terms of Use.
If you booked through a travel agent, you’ll need to contact them directly to cancel or make any changes.
Flight Changes
The below change fees apply if changes to your upcoming flight date or time are made by you.
Change fees apply per person, per booking. The same change fees apply to Future Credit fares and bookings made with Velocity Points + Pay. Change and cancellation fees are not payable where you are entitled to a refund under the Australian Consumer Law.
All Virgin Australia airfares are subject to change without notice. If you change your booking, your new fare may be more expensive than the original fare paid.

What happens if changes to your flight are made by Virgin Australia?
If we need to change your flight before or on the day of travel, we will either contact you or your travel agent will contact you to advise you of the change to your flight details.
If the new flight time is not suitable to you, you can contact our Guest Contact Centre or your nominated travel agent to request a different flight time.
If we cannot make suitable alternative arrangements, you may request a Travel Bank credit or a refund of the total price you paid for your impacted flight by contacting our Guest Contact Centre or your travel agent.
Name changes
Name changes are not permitted.
Flight cancellations
The below cancellation fees apply if your upcoming flight is cancelled by you.
Cancellation fees apply per person, per booking. Change and cancellation fees are not payable where you are entitled to a refund under the Australian Consumer Law.

What happens if your flight is cancelled by Virgin Australia?
If we cancel your flight, we will move you to the next available Virgin Australia flight to the same destination without charge.
If the new flight time is not suitable to you, there may be some circumstances where we will seek to transfer you to a service to the same destination operated by another carrier, if this is suitable to you.
If we cannot make suitable alternative arrangements, you may request a Travel Bank credit or a refund of the total price you paid for your impacted flight by contacting our Guest Contact Centre or your travel agent.
No shows
Our fares are not refundable in the event of a no-show, unless we did not communicate any relevant flight changes to you or your travel agent in line with the Guest Compensation Policy or if you are otherwise entitled to request a refund under the ACL.
Your ticket will be forfeited and classified as a no show if:
- You fail to board a flight regardless of whether or not you have checked in.
- You have checked in but failed to contact Virgin Australia for assistance in cancelling your flight.

Velocity Contact Centre fee - $40 or 5,200 Points (Points + Pay or Any Seat)
For New Zealand: (Conversion to local currency as per daily exchange) or 5,200 Points (Points + Pay or Any Seat)
Card payment fee (payment surcharge)
Payment fees apply when paying for your flight via credit or debit card, and for payments made outside of Australia. View our payment fees breakdown here.
To maximise customer choice we offer the ability to avoid paying a card payment fee (payment surcharge) online by paying your booking in full using the POLi Direct Payment option, or call the Guest Contact Centre with a gift voucher.
