Arriving at Broome Airport
Once you’ve landed at Broome Domestic terminal at Broome International Airport it’s only 2 kilometres to the centre of town.
There is no scheduled bus service from the airport, however some hotels and resorts in Broome centre and Cable Beach have shuttle bus services. The most value friendly commute from the airport is to walk to Frederick Street, and from there board the Town Bus Service. The Town Bus Service runs 7 days a week between most hotels and attractions in Broome, simply buy your ticket on the bus.
Alternatively travel to Broome and popular Cable Beach via taxi with both Broome Taxis and Chinatown Taxis servicing Broome. There aren’t any rideshare operators in Broome.

Departing from Perth Airport
Located just under 14 kilometres from Perth’s CBD, the easiest and best value commute to Perth Airport is Airport Shuttle Perth, running 24 hours, 7 days a week. Pre-book the service prior with Airport Shuttle Service.
Alternatively take advantage of the affordable option of public transport, Transperth with its many connections from Perth City; commute to Perth Airport via taxi or rideshare; or self-drive and utilise the airport parking.
In non-peak time the drive is approximately 25-35minutes from Perth CBD, however it’s always best to allow extra time in peak hour for the commute to Perth Airport.
Virgin Australia generally operates from Terminal 1 at Perth Domestic Airport for the flight from Perth to Broome. Check your itinerary for details prior to your departure.
What time do you need to arrive at Perth Airport?
If you’re planning to check in luggage we recommend that you plan to arrive at the airport 60 minutes prior to your flight time, as check-in is 45 minutes prior departure. This should allow you enough spare time to grab a coffee or snack on your way to the departure gate, without feeling frazzled.

8.30am – Breakfast at Broome Courthouse Markets, or Sunset Beach Bar & Grill
After a good night’s sleep at your hotel (we love the luxurious Cable Beach Club Resort & Spajust 8 kilometres from central Broome, and the award-wining Pinctada McAlpine House once a historic manor) you’re ready to explore Broome. For breakfast, you have some great options – if visiting on the weekend make your way to Broome Courthouse Markets for a coffee and Indonesian breakfast; or try the a la carte breakfast at Sunset Bar & Grillat famed Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa.
9.30am –Walk, swim, bike or hike at Cable Beach
Time to explore beautiful Cable Beach with its expansive 22 kilometre stretch of white sand and turquoise water bliss. Take a post-breakfast hike or mountain bike ride along the 5 kilometre stretch that runs north from Ganthaume Point (with its lighthouse tower and 135-million-year-old fossilised dinosaur footprints) to the patrolled beach area of Cable Beach.
11.30am – Learn about Broome’s pearling industry
Next up is a visit to Willie Creek Pearl Luggers, located right in the heart of Chinatown in Broome. Join their 11.30am tour that runs for 1.5 hours and learn all about Broome’s 150 years of pearling history, view some of the last remaining pearling luggers in Broome, see some of the diving artefacts, and enjoy an exclusive pearl meat tasting.
1.00pm – Lunch at Matso’s Restaurant
Lunch is booked at Matso’s restaurant and microbrewery on the southern edge of Broome, Australia’s most remote brewery, operating since 1997. Try the Matso’s fish and chips, washed down with a glass of Matso’s famous alcoholic ginger beer or desert lime and wild ginger cider.
2.30pm – Explore Chinatown
Experience an insight into Broome’s past with an afternoon in Chinatown. The town was (and still is) famous for its pearling industry, with many Chinese emigrating to become pearl divers, forming an important part of Broome’s culture. See the statues paying honour to this time, wander the alley-ways, admire the street-art, or book in a traditional Thai massage.
4.30pm – Sunset camel ride on Cable Beach
Time for the iconic must-do Broome experience, riding a camel along famous Cable Beach, experiencing the magical sunset. If the though of an hour and a half on a camel is too much, opt for the ‘taster tour’ which is a shorter 45-minute version.
7.30pm – Japanese fusion for dinner
After a freshen up back at your hotel, you’re off to dinner at Azuki Japanese Fusion, a Japanese style eating house with a twist. Enjoy their creative menu, dining in their outdoor dining area - we recommend their Aburi Tasmanian salmon.
9.00pm – A nightcap -- or an outdoor cinema experience

When to visit Broome?
Dry season
The best time to visit Broome is during the dry season, running from April/May through to September/October, when you’ll experience warm days, balmy nights, and clear blue skies. The dry season is considered peak season, the town can get packed, especially mid-June to mid-August, so we recommend that you book your airfare and accommodation in advance to avoid disappointment.
Wet season
During the wet season, which runs approximately from October/November through to March, the days are hot, and you’ll experience thunderstorms. Between January and March, you will experience monsoonal activity, possible cyclones, lots of rain and possible flooding.
One thing to be aware of when in Broome, or to define, on Broome Beaches, are the stingers that are found in the waters of the Broome coast during the wet season from approximately November through to May.
What to pack for your trip to Broome?
Packing for Broome depends on the time of year, and how you’re planning to spend your time on your holiday. Broome isn’t defined by summer or winter, instead there’s simply a wet season (September/October to March) and the dry season (April/May until September).
For outdoor activities and general sightseeing in summer, we recommend that you pack t-shirts, shorts, swimwear, comfortable walking shoes, plenty of sunscreen and a lightproof waterproof jacket. For outdoor dining bring a frock or two, and a light jacket, and for the gents a short sleeve shirt and long pants.
If travelling in the ‘cooler’ months swap shorts for long pants and a warm jacket for the cooler nights.
Other must-pack items are sunglasses, your camera, a portable battery for your phone, headphones, and cables, and a lightweight waterproof jacket.
