More Low Fare Options For Key Tourist Route
Virgin Blue’s first Newcastle-Gold Coast flight will take off at 10.30am today marking the start of daily direct flights between the two key cities.
Virgin Blue will be the only airline operating a direct jet service between Newcastle and the world famous Gold Coast region with the new flights expected to further boost leisure and business travel to the popular Queensland port.
Increased low fare services to Newcastle will also enhance the continued growth in Hunter bound tourism market with its first-class wine and vineyards, unspoilt wilderness and gorgeous coastline.
Chief Commercial Officer, Stefan Pichler, said, “The decision to operate flights between Newcastle and the Gold Coast furthers Virgin Blue’s position as the leader in putting affordable jet services into markets that until now had been held back by slower and smaller turboprop operations. We noticed so many of our Guests using Brisbane as the closest port to travel between Newcastle and the Gold Coast that we decided to put in the service that truly gets them where they want to go.”
He continued, “The people of Newcastle and the Gold Coast have always supported Virgin Blue services and we are excited to be venturing into new territory in terms of being the only airline to offer this route and are confident that travellers will continue to support the carrier that supports their needs. Past experience has also proven that it’s not just about boosting tourism, improved and affordable access for business people will also bring commercial benefits to both regions.”
The new service will increase the amount of flights into and out of the Gold Coast from 125 to 132 per week and follows hot on the heels of recently launched Gold Coast - Christchurch^ flights which took off earlier this month.
The extra daily flight with also boost capacity into and out of Newcastle by 50% and further compliments Virgin Blue’s current services Newcastle - Brisbane and Newcastle - Melbourne.
Everyday low fares start from $79* one way on the net, with a Flexi Saver fare of $269* one way on the net.
The flight will depart Newcastle at 10.30am arriving on the Gold Coast at 10.40am before returning at 11.10am and landing back in Newcastle at 1.15pm.
In celebration of today’s launch Guests will enjoy a special ‘Movieworld’ themed farewell party at Newcastle airport followed by a huge Queensland welcome on arrival at the Gold Coast airport.
