Virgin Blue Launches First Intra Wa Flights07/09/2004
New Direct Service Between Perth - Broome Takes Off
Virgin Blue will today launch a brand new service between Perth and Broome, bridging the gap between these two key cities with more low fares and flight options for the people of Western Australia.
The first flight from Perth will take off today at 4.40pm, arriving in Broome at 7.05pm. After the inaugural service the regular schedule will see flights departing Perth at 4:25pm, arriving into Broome at 6:50pm before turning around and heading back to the state’s capital for a 9.55pm arrival.
The flights will operate on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday with convenient connections available between Broome - Brisbane, Gold Coast, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne and Sydney via Perth to compliment connections already available on Saturdays via Virgin Blue’s direct Adelaide-Broome flight.
Virgin Blue Chief Executive Brett Godfrey said, “Broome was chosen as Virgin Blue’s very first West Australian regional port as it is a key tourism region which is going from strength to strength. We are excited to be able to expand our network where it’s most needed as well as providing more choice and convenience for those who have supported Virgin Blue with such enthusiasm over the past few years.”
He added, “We’ll be keeping a close eye on our loads and, as with all new routes, if we see strong support we’ll certainly consider adding more services into the region.”
Everyday low fares start from $199* one-way on the net, with a Fully Flexible fare of $439* one way, 34% cheaper than the competition.
Virgin Blue’s low fares and convenient schedule is expected to increase travel between Perth and Broome. While the convenient evening schedule has been tailored for the holiday maker, we are aware that some business travellers will find the high quality jet service combined with the evening departure a convenient way to ensure they get the most out of the following business day.
The new route which reflects Virgin Blue’s strong push to nurture domestic tourism, especially in regional Australia, will also provide a more attractive option for WA holiday makers who can now affordably venture north and enjoy the delights of Broome and the surrounding region.
Broome’s local business and airport community have applauded Virgin Blue’s decision to launch the direct Perth flights.
Ron Johnston from the Broome Chamber of Commerce said, “We are delighted to welcome this new service which certainly indicates Virgin Blue’s confidence in our destination. We are looking forward to working together to develop this important sector for both the tourism and business markets.”
Kim Maisey, Chief Executive Officer Broome International Airport, said, “Since Virgin Blue began services to Broome in April last year we’ve been keen to increase services from other destinations and we warmly welcome the introduction of this direct flight and extra capacity on this key route.”
