Virgin Australia Update on Christchurch Services

Virgin Australia can advise that the Christchurch airport has re-opened following two earthquakes in the area on 23 December 2011 and flight operations are continuing as planned.

There have been minimal impacts on Virgin Australia services to and from the city of Christchurch today.

Virgin Australia Group Executive Operations, Sean Donohue, said: “I can confirm that we had no aircraft on the ground in Christchurch at the time of the earthquakes. One Virgin Australia flight en route from Melbourne (DJ60) diverted to Wellington but is now continuing on to Christchurch.”

As a result of the delayed arrival, an outbound Christchurch to Brisbane flight this evening (DJ83) will be delayed approximately 3 hours and a return flight from Brisbane to Christchurch (DJ82) will be delayed approximately 2.5 hours,” he said.

Mr Donohue said that Guests holding reservations for travel today and tomorrow are encouraged to go to the Virgin Australia website www.virginaustralia.com for updates and information regarding our flexible travel policies.

“Our focus at this time is ensuring the safety and welfare of our team members. Our thoughts are with the people of Christchurch,” Mr. Donohue said.
