Virgin Blue goes Troppo for NOrth Queensland

Brisbane, Australia: Virgin Blue is continuing its love affair with its home state of Queensland with the announcement of more flights for two of its key North Queensland destinations. From February next year, Virgin Blue will boost the number of flights from Sydney to both Mackay and Rockhampton in response to strong demand.

Virgin Blue is taking delivery of 20 new EMBRAER E-Jets over the next 18 months which is allowing the airline to focus on increasing flights to destinations that have supported Virgin Blue’s existing services.

Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey said, “Both Mackay and Rockhampton are terrific destinations and we have been heartened by the long standing support for our existing flights to both Brisbane and Sydney. It’s this steadfast support that has given us the confidence to commit to these increases.”

He continued, “It’s clear that the people of regional North Queensland appreciate affordable, high quality jet aircraft services and we want to return that support by offering more flight options and more convenience.”

Virgin Blue currently operates 4 flights a week between Mackay and Sydney. From 4 February 2008, the airline will operate 7 flights a week, providing a non-stop jet aircraft flight to Sydney every day of the week for the convenience of both business and leisure travellers.

Six days a week (including Sunday) the new flight schedule is DJ 451 Sydney-Mackay departing at 10.45am and arriving in to Mackay at 12.05pm and then departing as flight DJ 452 at 12.45pm for an arrival in to Sydney at 4pm.

On Saturdays, the flight will operate from Sydney at 9.45am, arriving in to Mackay at 11.05am and depart Mackay at 11.35am, landing in Sydney at 2.50pm

Virgin Blue will go from 3 flights a week to a daily return flight between Rockhampton and Sydney from 4 February 2008.

The additional daily flights will operate as DJ 461 departing Sydney at 8.05am and arrive in Rockhampton at 9.00am with DJ 462 departing Rockhampton at 9.30am and touching down in Sydney at 12.20pm.

Virgin Blue will use the EMBRAER aircraft as well as the BOEING 737 to operate the Sydney flights to both destinations subject to seasonal requirements and demand.
