Style by State with Sabo Skirt

We love visiting Melbourne and immersing ourselves in such a fashion conscious environment.

Encapsulating all of these characters, the girls behind online boutique Sabo Skirt, Yiota and Thessy have recently caused big waves amongst the international fashion set.

The Brisbane-based bloggers turned entrepreneurs have attracted legions of fans (including close to 870,000 followers on Instagram), and have been crowned fashion authorities by the likes of Cosmopolitan and The Iconic.

Intrigued to learn about what makes Australia’s fashion landscape tick, we asked the powerhouse duo to give us their take on our most fashion-forward hubs, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Brisbane

Style

Brisbane's street style is very summery and charismatically laid-back all year around.

Wear

As we welcome the warmer weather, we find ourselves turning to chic summer staples like printed shorts, low-back tanks and strappy flats paired with denim vests or light cardigans.

Shop

Brisbane’s CBD is dotted with boutiques that are filled with on-trend and affordable items. Fortitude Valley is a go-to for modern and edgy fashion and statement pieces.

Designer

Edwina Sinclair  particularly her latest Soot range, which innovatively features an array of black, teal and white pieces.

Inspires

We are so proud of Brisbane’s ever-increasing creative culture. Our fashion scene has exploded in the past few years to include the annual Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival and monthly Young Designer Markets at South Bank.

Sydney

Style

Sydney's street style is a fashion-forward mix of sophisticated and boho. Locals tend to pair high-end designer pieces with eclectic items.

Wear

On current trips to Sydney we have worn printed trousers and block colour crop tops with mid-height ankle boots.

Shop

We absolutely love shopping at Bondi’s and Paddington’s boutiques, and always make sure we visit Surry Hills’ and Crown Street’s vintage stores. We look forward to finding unique labels and pieces in Sydney.

Designer

Aje! Adrian and Edwina are amazing designers, and inspire us with their unique shapes and amazing use of textures. We love to visit their Potts Point store when we are in Sydney.

Inspires

We are inspired by Sydney’s vast range of international, high-end fashion stores. So many international big names have set up shop in Sydney over the past few years, making it a truly desirable place to visit for fashion.

Melbourne

Style

One word… distinctive! A beautiful combination of fashion-forward, city-chic and vintage pieces, create a unique street style that can only be found in Melbourne.

Wear

Melbourne’s weather is random, so we are always layering. Jeans worn with a chunk knit, over a racer back tank, over a cage bralette. You have got to work the layers to form the perfect Melbourne outfit.

Shop

We love shopping at Oxford Street for a mix of boutique fashion and international stores like Topshop. We head in to the city for well-known brand stores and amazing shoe shopping!

Designer

We love Alexi Freeman's latest range. It features intricate prints, staple pieces in bold neon, and plays with hemlines of different lengths.

Inspires

Melbourne is the fashion capital of Australia, so merely being in Melbourne surrounded by a vast mix of different styles is so inspiring!  We love visiting Melbourne and immersing ourselves in such a fashion conscious environment.
