Discover Honolulu

Pay homage to “the father of modern surfing”, Duke Kahanamoku, by placing a lei on his statue.

Spread over the southern shores of Oahu, Honolulu paints a striking picture. Sparkling beaches are fringed by swaying palm trees, bordered by towering high-rises, and overlooked by imposing headlands.

The city’s main hub, Waikiki is a world-famous tourist hotspot. A former playground for Hawaiian royalty, today Waikiki is dotted with world-class accommodation and acts as a lively meeting place.

Walk the neighborhood’s main strip, Kalakaua Avenue and indulge in outstanding shopping. Book a table at Roy’s Waikiki or Chef Mavro and experience the unique homegrown flavours of the Hawaii Regional Cuisine. Learn to stand-up paddleboard in the calm waters of Waikiki Beach. Pay homage to “the father of modern surfing”, Duke Kahanamoku, by placing a lei on his statue. Hike up the iconic Diamond Head and take in panoramic views of Oahu's south shore.

40 minutes northwest of Waikiki, Pearl Harbor also draws big crowds, but for very different reasons. The historic site was attacked  by Japanese naval and air forces in 1941an event that drove the United States to enter World War Two. Today Pearl Harbor honours this history-changing event with five poignant and powerful memorials.

Pay respect to the fallen at the USS Arizona Memorial and USS Oklahoma Memorial. Learn about the battle under the sea at the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park, and the battle in the sky at the Pacific Aviation Museum. Stand on the Surrender Deck of the Battleship Missouri Memorial and view the documents that ended the war.

While most of Oahu’s action is focused on the island’s southern coastline, the north also offers a gamut of extraordinary experiences.

Plan a day trip or an overnighter to the legendary the North Shore, just an hour’s drive from Waikiki. Home to rolling green mountains, rugged coastline and world-famous surf breaks  including Waimea Bay, Ehukai Beach (Banzai Pipeline) and Sunset Beach  the North Shore embodies what most people expect from a Hawaiian holiday.
