Crush Festival Bundaberg

Alana Lowes, The Flying Foodie has taste tested the upcoming Crush Festival in Bundaberg and selected her favourite gourmet events.

The Flying Foodie boarded flight VA 1701 to Bundaberg for a little sneak peak at the upcoming Crush Festival.  The festival celebrates the vibrant arts and cultural scene in the region, but of course, The Flying Foodie uncovered the best of the gourmet events on offer during the 10-day celebration.

Here are The Flying Foodie’s pick of the Crush Festival events:

Friday 7th October

Crush Festival Launch @ River Feast

Bundaberg’s old Marine College transforms into an exotic array of international street food and creative stalls.  Two on-site bars to keep you hydrated and a taste of performances and readings from the Crush Festival program.

Wednesday 12th October

The Great Gelato Groove

A musical chat and jam fest, a mix of words, music and of course creamy, rich gelato.  Bundaberg Writers Club will be the wordsmiths, testing the musicians improve skills.  No right or wrong, all we know is there is gelato from Alowishus Delicious.  A night not to miss!

Saturday October 15th

Spirit of Bundaberg

The Bundaberg Distillery is holding their rum inspired festival “Spirit of Bundaberg” during the Crush Festival.  Held at the new Bundaberg Rum Visitor Centre, there will be plenty of rum based cocktails and masterclasses on offers as well as food cooked with the iconic liquor at the heart of the menu.

The Unexpected Dinner

In a region known for it cane field history, it is no surprise that this year’s Unexpected Dinner will be held in an old molasses shed.  Local chef, Dion Taylor, has created a unique 5-course dinner event to showcase the local produce and the evening will pay tribute to the sugar stories significant to the Bundberg region.

If you are wanting to immerse yourself into the local arts scene, the #tag and release exhibition will be showcased at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery from Wednesday 12 October.  The regions emerging artistic talent have explored sculpture and installation techniques using a variety of creative mediums to delve into the theme of #tag and release.
