The Virgin Australia group of airlines has an established program of community and philanthropic partnerships, with a specific focus on indigenous Australians and youth at risk. Virgin Australia team members are actively involved in these partnerships, which include:

Salvation Army Emergency Services

When it comes to communities in crisis, Virgin Australia’s role is to assist in transporting people safely out of harm’s way, assisting with aid and aid workers to the areas as needed and raising awareness and fundraising by utilising its resources where possible. The Salvation Army Emergency Services is our local crisis partner. At times of crisis The Salvation Army believes that no one should have to ‘go it’ alone. When a disaster strikes, anywhere in Australia, they are ready to meet people at their point of need. Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) teams provide emergency catering services and are among the first relief teams to arrive on the ground after a disaster.

Together we aim to help Australians in times of need including, but not limited to, natural and weather disasters such as drought, severe storms, floods, bushfires cyclones etc. Virgin Australia supports The Salvation Army through flights, awareness and fundraising.

R U OK?'s vision is a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide.

Their aim is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with people around them and support anyone struggling with life, by enabling and strengthening informal community care. And it can all start by simply asking R U OK?.  If your gut instinct is saying a loved one might not be doing so well, perhaps they're just not themselves or you've noticed a change in their behaviour, you can make a difference by caring to ask "are you ok?" and listening either way.

In 2018, Virgin Australia partnered with R U OK? to help support their Conversation Convoy, which travelled around Australia for six weeks to remind all Australians that everyday is R U OK?Day.

If you want to know more about starting a conversation that could change a life, visit their website.

Gidget Foundation Australia provides programs to support the emotional wellbeing of expectant and new parents.
Gidget was the nickname of a vibrant young mother who tragically took her own life while suffering postnatal depression. She hid her suffering from even her loving family and friends.  Together, they created Gidget Foundation Australia and determined that what happened to Gidget would not happen to others.

Nearly 1 in 5 mothers and 1 in 10 fathers will experience perinatal depression and anxiety that is often hidden and not fully understood. It impacts around 100,000 Australians each year, which is why the Gidget Foundation is dedicated to supporting these parents when they need it most.

The Gidget Foundation works with Virgin Australia to increase awareness, both internally and externally, about the importance of emotional wellbeing in early parenthood as well as providing counsel on their parental leave policies. Additionally, Virgin Australia generously look after the Foundation’s flights requirements and provide volunteers for their fundraising events.

Smiling Mind

Smiling Mind is a whole lot more than Australia’s #1 mindfulness app.  They’re the not-for-profit that is helping make future generations happier and healthier through the practice of mindfulness meditation. In fact, they’re aiming to reach 5 million young people by 2021 with various tools and resources, including their free app.

Half of all mental illness has its onset by the age of 12. Furthermore, 1 in 7 Australian primary and 1 in 4 secondary students suffer from a mental illness every year. For this reason, their evidence based, award winning school program aims to reverse these trends. Combining mindfulness training, resources and teaching tools to make mindfulness a seamless inclusion in any classroom.

You can find Smiling Mind’s meditations for adults and kids in the Inflight Entertainment on any Virgin Australia flight.
