TRADE RELEASE 30 August 2019

New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZ eTA) Requirement

Virgin Australia wishes to advise agents that from 1 October 2019, it will be obligatory for citizens of all 60 visa waiver countries travelling to New Zealand to have a valid NZ eTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority).

In order to obtain a NZ eTA, citizens from certain countries are required to complete an online application form.

Please note that Australian citizens do not require a NZ eTA to enter New Zealand. Australian permanent residents need to apply for a NZ eTA.

NZ eTA applications may take up to 72 hours to be processed and guests who fail to provide valid travel documentation will be denied entry into New Zealand by New Zealand Customs.

Requirements to obtain a NZ eTA

• A valid passport that will be used to travel to New Zealand (with 1 to 3 months validity depending on the guest’s nationality);
• A credit card/debit card (Visa or Mastercard) to pay for the small processing fee and tourist levy; and
• An email address for the completed application to be sent to.

We ask that you please advise guests who are travelling to New Zealand from 1 October 2019 to ensure they have obtained a valid NZ eTA prior to travel (if necessary).

For more information, please visit the New Zealand Immigration website.

Enhancements to Domestic Travel within New Zealand

Virgin Australia is pleased to announce enhancements to domestic add-ons for guests travelling domestically within New Zealand.

Virgin Australia now permits:

• Interline travel between Virgin Australia ports within New Zealand (i.e. BNE-AKL-NZ-CHC-SYD) with AKL-CHC on Air New Zealand; and
• Stopovers within New Zealand.

Agents can now book a Virgin Australia ticket that includes interline travel within New Zealand and/or domestic stopovers along the way.

When booking an interline ticket, please refer to the below table to ensure the correct Reservation Booking Designator (RBD) is applied for domestic New Zealand segments.
