Virgin Australia and Delta Network

Together, Virgin Australia and Delta Air Lines connect you to 250+ destinations across the trans-pacific, operating 24 direct flights per week between Australian ports Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to Los Angeles using B777 aircraft.

From Los Angeles, connect to over 177 Delta flights departing daily, including 10 peak-day flights between Los Angeles and New York.

Delta Air Lines cabin crew


Virgin Australia codeshares with Delta Air Lines. This means that your itinerary and ticket may reflect a Virgin Australia flight number, however the flight is operated by Delta. In this instance guests must check their itinerary or ticket to ensure they check-in with the operating airline. Please ensure you check in with the operating airline in this instance.

Departing Australia 

Guests departing from the International Terminals in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane can check-in 3 hours before the flight’s scheduled departure time.

Virgin Australia offers complimentary transfers between Domestic and International Terminals in Sydney and Brisbane. Bags will be taggeds and boarding passes issued through to the guest’s final destination*. 

Arriving in Australia 

On arrival in Australia, all Virgin Australia and Delta Air Lines guests must clear immigration and customs.

Arriving and transiting through Los Angeles Airport (LAX)

Virgin Australia flights will arrive at Tom Bradley International Terminal. All bags must be collected in LAX and customs cleared.. If your bags have been checked through to your final destination*, please present them at the interline/connecting baggage area after clearing Customs. Otherwise take your bags with you to your onward departure terminal.

Please proceed to Terminal 2 or 3 for Delta Air Lines operated flights. Terminals 2, 3 and Tom Bradley International Terminal are approximately a 300m walk from each other. For connecting flights, where possible, we recommend walking to ensure you connect onwards. Alternatively, a free inter-terminal shuttle bus operates from outside the terminal buildings. 

Departing Los Angeles Airport (LAX) or other North American cities

Guests travelling on a Virgin Australia operated flight, check-in is located at LAX Terminal 2. After check in please proceed , to Tom Bradley International Terminal via the walkway or inter-terminal shuttle bus for security screening and departure gate.

Guests travelling on a Delta operated flight, check in is located at LAX Terminal 2.

For guest travelling from cities within the United States, Mexico and Canada will be through checked to their final destination* within Australia or New Zealand. The guest will receive a boarding pass and bag tags to their final destination* however the guest will be expected to collect their bags at the last international transit point and clear customs prior to boarding their domestic flight to their final destination.

Upon arrival in LAX please ensure you proceed to the departure gate of the operating Carrier. All Virgin Australia operated flights depart from Tom Bradley Internal Terminal. If you are travelling on a Delta operated flight, please check your itinerary to ensure you know which Terminal the flight is departing from.

*entire journey must be on the same ticket 

Carry-on Baggage

Your carry-on baggage allowance will depend on the operating carrier’s policy for each sector. The operating carrier of each sector is detailed in your itinerary.

Checked Baggage

Your bags will be checked to your final destination when purchased in a single ticket, offering you a seamless customer experience.

Delta Air Lines Lounge Access  

Delta Air Lines lounge

Velocity Platinum and Gold members travelling on a Delta operated flight receive complimentary access to Delta Sky Club lounges at selected cities within the United states.

Business class guests travelling between Australia and the United states on the same ticket are entitled to lounge access in the United states where a Delta Sky club is present.
