Virgin Blue Takes Off Between Adelaide & Hobart02/11/2004
In another boost for Australian aviation, Virgin Blue will today launch a brand new service between Adelaide and Hobart as part of its on-going plan to expand its direct low fare flights between key Australian cities.
The airline has been buoyed by steadfast support in both Adelaide and Hobart and has committed one of its Boeing 737 jets to the new non-stop route as a direct result of this ongoing demand for more affordable low fare, high quality services.
This morning’s flight will depart Adelaide at 11.10am and land in Hobart at 1.35pm.
Virgin Blue will be the only airline operating a direct and convenient Adelaide-Hobart flight which will allow people the luxury of not having to change aircraft in Melbourne to get to where they want to go.
Virgin Blue spokesperson Amanda Bolger said, “We’ve been noticing how many people were taking advantage of our connecting service and decided that the best way to look after these Guests was to put a direct flight in three days a week to start with.”
She continued, “While it’s early days, forward bookings are trending well and we are excited to be venturing into more domestic routes as part of our hub-busting strategy. We will initially launch with three flights a week and as a seasonal service but if demand is strong, we will consider looking at it year round.”
The convenient times make it easy for pleasure travellers who are visiting family or friends or flying between the two cities to enjoy the exceptional wine, natural wonders and culinary delights that both Adelaide and Hobart are famous for.
Leisure Guests aren’t the only people to benefit from the new flights as the direct flight three days a week, combined with the daily connecting services via Melbourne will allow corporate travellers to save both time and money.
Amanda Bolger continued, “There has been strong lobbying from our Guests as well as the tourism and business communities for Virgin Blue to begin services between Adelaide and Hobart and we have always been adamant that we will support the regions that support us.”
The new flight follows hot the heels of additional capacity in both markets with the recent launch of new Hobart-Sydney flights as well as a new Adelaide-Alice Springs direct service.
“We pride ourselves on maintaining affordable fares while at the same time providing a high class service and we firmly believe that low fares do not have to mean a second class service. We aren’t interested in being a “poor cousin” and have no intention of subjecting our Guests to anything other than the outstanding service that we provide across our entire route network”, Amanda Bolger finished.
The low fare carrier will operate flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and fares for Virgin Blue flights between Adelaide and Hobart start from $129* one-way on the internet.
^ * All fares are for flights booked on the Internet. $10 more by phone. Fares are subject to availability and may not be available on all flights or peak days
