Big Red Jets Bring Daily Sydney-Launceston Direct15/12/2002
Virgin Blue’s big red jet will touch down at Launceston airport at 12.05 pm today heralding the arrival of daily direct flights between Launceston and Sydney.
The new service for the peak holiday season was added due to the increasing number of travellers taking advantage of Virgin Blue’s low fares on connecting flights through Melbourne.
Everyday fares start from $149* one-way on the net, with $299* one way on the net Fully Flexible Fares, nearly a third cheaper than the competition’s Fully Flexible fare of $419 between the two cities.
The Airline is also offering a special Launceston – Brisbane via Sydney sale fare of $199** one-way on the net for travel between December 15 and January 19 2003.
Since launching services to and from Tasmania in November last year, Virgin Blue has more than doubled its flights to the State, reflecting the popularity of the region as a great holiday destination and highlighting the strong growth in the ‘short breaks’, ‘quick getaway’ market that low fare competition has stimulated.
Virgin Blue CEO, Brett Godfrey said, “This new seasonal service is not only great for Tasmania tourism, it’s also great for New South Wales and Queensland as it’s an affordable way for people to take off on a holiday or to visit family and friends interstate and it’s great for business travellers who want cost conscious convenience."
Virgin Blue will operate its award winning service on the most modern and comfortable jets flying across Bass Strait with its fleet of Boeing 737’s, adding an extra 1000 seats a week in each direction.
To celebrate the daily direct service, Virgin Blue will christen one of its brand new aircraft “Launie Lass” in honour of the ongoing support from both business and leisure travellers from Northern Tasmania.
