Transfers

Departing Australia

Virgin Australia and Delta codeshare on each other’s services. Guests must check their itinerary to ensure they check-in with the operating airline.

Guests departing from Sydney and Brisbane can check-in 3 hours before the flight’s scheduled departure time. Check-in counters close 60 minutes prior to the flight’s scheduled departure time for Premium Economy and Economy guests and 45 minutes for Business Class guests.

Virgin Australia offers a transfer service between terminals in Sydney and Brisbane. Guests booked on a single ticket in or out of an Australian port and connect through Sydney or Brisbane to an international flight, will receive this service free of charge using the ticket provided in their transfer wallet and pass issued at Virgin Australia check-in. Bags will be checked through to the final destination and boarding passes will be issued for the entire journey.

Guests who do not hold a boarding pass for their international flight can proceed to the Virgin Australia International check-in desk.

Arriving in Australia

On arrival in Australia, all Virgin Australia and Delta guests must clear immigration and customs.

Guests arriving at Sydney International (T1) and connecting to a domestic flight are provided with a complimentary bus service to the Domestic Terminal (T2) located approximately 2 kms away.

Guests can proceed to the Virgin Australia Transfer Lounge after clearing customs to check-in for their Virgin Australia domestic flight. The bus operates every 10-20 minutes and takes approximately 15 minutes.

Guests arriving at Brisbane International and connecting to a domestic flight are provided with a complimentary train or bus service to the Domestic Terminal located approximately 2 kms away.

Guests can proceed to the Virgin Australia Transfer Desk located in the International Terminal after clearing customs to check in for their Virgin Australia domestic flight and receive a complimentary transport pass. Once checked in, guests can proceed to the transfer bus or Airtrain. The transport pass must be presented to the Airtrain or bus attendant.

Departing Los Angeles Airport (LAX) or other North American cities

Virgin Australia and Delta codeshare on each other’s services. Guests must check their itinerary to ensure they check-in with the operating airline.

Guests on a Virgin Australia operated flight, check-in at LAX Terminal 3 at the Virgin Australia check-in counter.

Guests on a Delta operated flight check in at LAX Terminal 5 at the Delta check-in counter.

From other North American cities, guests booked on a single itinerary will be issued their boarding passes, and their bags will be checked through to their final destination on the Virgin Australia network.

Upon arrival in LAX, guests travelling onward on Delta operated Sydney flights should check monitors and proceed to their departure gate. Guests travelling onward on flights operated by Virgin Australia should transfer from T5 to TBIT by taking a 5-minute walk or catching the inter-terminal shuttle which departs from gate 52B and operates regularly from 6:30pm until 11pm.  

Arriving and transiting through Los Angeles Airport (LAX)

All Virgin Australia flights to Los Angeles arrive in Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT). All Delta flights to Los Angeles arrive in Terminal 5 (T5).

On arrival, all guests proceed to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol to go through U.S. Immigration procedures, claim their bags and clear customs at LAX. Guests with connecting flights proceed to the transfer desk to re-check bags.

Guests arriving on a Delta-operated flight in T5 should clear security and enter the departure lobby before proceeding to their departure gate.

Guests arriving on flights operated by Virgin Australia in TBIT can transfer to T5 by taking a 5-minute walk. Once in T5, guests go through the security checkpoint and can proceed to their departure gate.

Baggage

A generous baggage allowance of 2 x 23kg of baggage is offered on all Virgin Australia and Delta Air Lines flights across the trans-Pacific. Premium Economy and Business class guests will receive 2 x 32kg of checked baggage. This will be the baggage allowance for all sectors on the ticket, including the domestic AU and US sectors.
