Sponsorship plays a valuable role in the promotion of the Virgin Australia group of airlines and support for the communities in which our airlines operate.

Each year the Virgin Australia group of airlines receives many requests for assistance. As we only have limited resources available, it is unfortunate that we cannot support all applications. Only proposals that deliver commercial or community benefits that align with the direction of our airline progress to evaluation.

Community Sponsorships

The Virgin Australia group of airlines has an established program of community and philanthropic partnerships, with a specific focus on indigenous Australians and youth at risk. Virgin Australia team members are actively involved in these partnerships, which include:

Surf Life Saving Australia

Virgin Australia has partnered with Surf Life Saving Australia to take their important surf safety messages to our international and domestic travellers. Surf Life Saving has been looking after beachgoers for more than 100 years through patrols, public safety campaigns, and education and training. We are proud to support SLSA by doing our part to remind all guests to swim between the red and yellow flags while enjoying Australia’s beautiful beaches.

AIME

Virgin Australia proudly supports the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) – a mentoring program that partners university students in one-to-one mentoring relationships with Indigenous Australian high school students.

Starlight Foundation

Virgin Australia is a wish-granting partner of the Starlight Foundation – an Australian charity that brightens the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children, and their families, throughout Australia. Virgin Australia flies Starlight children and their families across our domestic network to a range of popular tourist destinations.

Brisbane Youth Service

Virgin Australia team members are actively involved in supporting the Brisbane Youth Service via a six-month leadership program known as the Business Champions. The Brisbane Youth Service is a community-based organisation that works with homeless or at-risk young people, providing long-term assistance to help them understand their situation and make more positive choices.

Foodbank

Foodbank is a not-for-profit organisation that seeks and distributes food and grocery industry donations to welfare agencies which feed the hungry. Virgin Australia supports Foodbank nationally by helping to raise awareness of the charity and its aims and providing flights.

The Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre

Virgin Australia provides support to the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre – a not-for-profit company, owned and controlled by Indigenous Australians, that aims to foster new Indigenous leadership, by offering accredited courses in Indigenous Leadership and non-accredited short courses in specific leadership skills and mentoring.

Virgin Australia is the proud naming rights sponsor of Stadium Mackay. The newly titled Virgin Australia Stadium is Mackay’s premier sporting and entertainment venue, hosting regional, national and international events in a significant recreational development for regional Queensland.

Australian Football League

Virgin Australia is proud to be the Official Airline of the Australian Football League (AFL). Supporting all AFL team flight requirements across Australia and abroad during the year, Virgin Australia is excited to be working alongside both the AFL and the clubs to manage team travel and logistics. Virgin Australia is proud to be the Official Airline Partner of this iconic Australian tennis event. The Australian Open is the first of four Grand Slam tennis tournaments held across the world each year and is unequivocally Australia’s largest annual sporting event, drawing over 650,000 patrons to Melbourne Park.

National Basketball League

Virgin Australia proudly supports the NBL as Official Airline, ensuring players reach their destination during the 126 game season each year. Staged between October and April, the NBL is played in nine venues across regional and metropolitan Australia and New Zealand and is now regarded as one of the premier league's internationally.

V8 Supercars

Virgin Australia is proud to be involved with Australia’s premiere motor racing body as the Official Airline Partner to the V8 Supercars Championship. The 2012 calendar currently has 16 rounds scheduled both domestically and internationally, with two races being held in New Zealand and Abu Dhabi. The V8 Supercars are currently the world’s leading Touring Car category and the third best motorsport category in the world, behind Formula 1 and NASCAR.

18th Biennale of Sydney: all our relations

Virgin Australia is the Official Airline and Co-Presenting Partner of Vernissage Day for the 18th Biennale of Sydney, Australia's largest and most exciting contemporary visual arts event. Since its inauguration 39 years ago, it has endeavoured to challenge traditional thinking and encourage innovative creative expression, and today the event ranks as one of the world’s leading festivals of contemporary art. Every two years, it is presented free to the public over a twelve–week period.

Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap

Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” opened on London’s West End in 1952 and is still on stage at St Martin’s Theatre to this day, making it the longest running show of any kind in the world. To celebrate the show’s 60th Diamond Anniversary, 60 professional productions of this theatre phenomenon have been licensed worldwide. Virgin Australia is proud to be the Official Airline Partner for the all-Australian production of The Mousetrap, as Christie’s classic ‘whodunit’ opens in Sydney in June before commencing a national tour.
