Virgin Blue Doubles Weekday Services to Port Hedland!

New Daily Morning Flight Added to Schedule

Wednesday 21 October 2009: Less than three months after Virgin Blue launched services between Perth and Port Hedland the airline has announced it will provide double daily services five days a week (from Monday to Friday) boosting capacity on the route from seven to 12 flights a week from 16 November 2009.

The new services will operate every weekday morning departing Perth at 6am and arriving into Port Hedland at 8.05am before returning to Perth by 10.35am the same day. This is in addition to the current schedule which offers a daily return service each afternoon departing Perth at 4.10pm and Port Hedland 6.45pm^.

Virgin Blue will operate an executive style EMBRAER E-Jet aircraft on the route providing Guests with the comfort and convenience of a modern jet aircraft offering 2 x 2 seating and a fast, smooth flight.

Brett Godfrey, Virgin Blue Airlines Group Chief Executive, said, “The decision to increase capacity on this route throughout the working week is the result of ongoing support from Port Hedland Council, the airports and community as well as a brand new air service partnership between Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) and Virgin Blue.

“We are extremely pleased to be partnering with FMG in a deal that will bring additional benefits to the Port Hedland community and business sector which will have even greater access to air services with the increase in frequency.”

The new morning flight will also be welcomed by corporate travellers in Perth who can be in Port Hedland before the business day even starts before returning on the evening flight.
