Virgin Blue Team Rallies To Fly Record Number Of Guests
Virgin Blue achieved a company record when it boarded over 43,000 passengers last Friday during its busiest day ever.
With school holidays and major football finals games held over the weekend, the multi-award winning low fare airline increased capacity and provided additional flights to meet the extra demand and to get travellers to their destinations across the network.
While high load factor peaks placed extra work on systems, processes and people, Virgin Blue’s dedicated team rallied together to ensure 86% of Friday’s flights* departed as scheduled.
An additional four flights were put on for the day as loyal footy fans followed their teams and families took off on school holidays.
Virgin Blue Chief Executive Brett Godfrey said, “It’s a tribute to our dedicated staff and contractors who rose to the challenge and went out of their way to continue to provide exceptional service and to get people to where they wanted to go on this exceptionally busy day. Our team should be very proud of what they have achieved and I personally applaud their commitment and ‘can-do’ attitude”.
It has been a busy month for the Virgin Blue group which has also launched new services between Sydney-Hobart, Perth-Broome and international flights^ from Brisbane and Melbourne to and from Fiji and Vanuatu.
The airline has also announced plans to ramp up services to a number of key regional areas including Coffs Harbour with a new direct flight to Melbourne, as well as introducing an early morning departure from Mackay to Brisbane.
“We are very fortunate to be one of the few airlines expanding in the current fiercely competitive global climate and we will remain committed to our high quality, low fare model as we continue to grow our network across the country and overseas”, Brett Godfrey finished.
