Virgin Blue Announces Launch Routes, New Service Starts With 7 Daily Brisbane-Sydney Returns
Virgin Blue Airlines Pty Limited today announced it will launch its low fare service with seven daily return flights between Brisbane and Sydney.
The new airline is on track for its pre-Olympic kickoff subject to approval by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
The announcement was made to coincide with this week's Australian Travel Exhibition in Sydney.
The company also confirmed the initial route will be followed within weeks by a Brisbane - Melbourne service.
Virgin Blue plans to complete the triangle with a frequent service between Sydney and Melbourne to start after the Olympics.
Brett Godfrey, Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Blue, commented, "Virgin Blue believes that Queensland is a tremendous growth market and after selecting Brisbane for our headquarters, it's only natural that we focus on Queensland's capital for our launch routes. It was an easy decision for us".
The airline has confirmed its launch plans to fly five high capacity Boeing 737-400's and it is considering a further fleet expansion before the end of the year, either to increase frequencies or open up new routes where it believes low fare service would succeed.
A team of Australian pilots from Virgin Blue is scheduled to bring the first aircraft to Australia from European based airline VIRGIN Express shortly.
Virgin Blue has secured takeoff and landing slots at the major airports that will allow it to operate a timetable suitable for both leisure and business travellers.
Additionally, Virgin Blue has unveiled its new logo featuring a curve resembling the nose of a 737 aircraft as well as a boomerang.
Virgin Blue will be announcing its fares and exact schedules by the end of June.
