Skywest Airlines

skywestlogo Virgin Australia recently completed the acquisition and renaming of Perth-based, Skywest Airlines as part of our plans to expand our regional flight network. We launched a regional network partnership with Skywest in October 2011 and now we will be able to realise the full potential of the operation through developing a more integrated network, service and frequent flyer program.

From 7 May 2013, Skywest will carry the Virgin Australia name, with airports and aircraft to be progressively rebranded over the coming months. The Skywest operating carrier has been renamed Virgin Australia Regional Airlines Pty Ltd (“VARA”).

Each year, Skywest flies more than 350,000 people to 16 destinations across Western Australia, interstate to Melbourne and Darwin and overseas to Bali.

Check-in

For VA flight numbers ranging from VA5000 to VA5199 operated by Skywest Airlines you need to check in with Skywest. Please note that from 2nd March 2013 Skywest will operate all flights from Perth Terminal 2. Free Terminal Transfers are available for all connecting passengers.

Velocity Frequent Flyer

Velocity members can earn and redeem Velocity Points when travelling on eligible Skywest Airlines services.

Baggage

Baggage allowances for Virgin Australia (VA) and Skywest (XR) Codeshare flights - flight numbers VA5000 to VA5199

Fares booked through Virgin Australia, which have a VA flight number between VA5000 to VA5199 are codeshare flights operated by Skywest and all fare types are entitled to Virgin Australia’s flexi fare allowances regardless of the fare type purchased. Guest travelling on these Skywest operated flights are not required to purchase a checked baggage allowance nor able to pre-purchase additional checked baggage above their included allowance.

These codeshare flights are subject to separate Skywest Terms and Conditions regarding baggage and special services. For details, please check with Skywest. These flights include 7kg carry-on baggage and a checked baggage allowance of 1 piece up to 23kg. The checked baggage allowance included for Velocity Gold members is 1 piece up to 32kg or for Velocity Platinum members is 2 pieces up to 32kg each piece.

Fares booked through Skywest Airlines, with a XR flight number, are entitled to Skywest’s baggage allowances, regardless of the flight’s operating carrier.
