Virgin Blue Gears Up To Touch Down In Hamilton Island
Direct Daily Flights With Award Winning Service
Virgin Blue will today launch its brand new flights between Brisbane and Hamilton Island’s Great Barrier Reef Airport, marking the start of daily direct flights between the two key destinations. The inaugural flight will take off at 10.30am touching down in the beautiful island paradise at 12.00pm.
Among those celebrating the launch will be Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey and CEO of Tourism QLD Ian Mitchell, who will be getting into the spirit of the “Black tie and Board shorts” theme by dressing up in the appropriate attire.
The theme represents Virgin Blue’s commitment to providing quality service to the tropical destination and emphasises the airline’s excitement to be bringing its award winning service direct into Hamilton Island.
Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey said, “Having just been named the world’s best low fare carrier for the second year at the recent OAG Awards in London, we are excited to be entering yet another new domestic market that has a need for great service at affordable fares. This new route will complement our existing Proserpine flights making it even easier for Guests to enjoy a holiday on Hamilton Island itself or the equally beautiful surrounding islands such as Hayman, Club Med Lindeman and Daydream Islands”
Brett Godfrey continued, “While it’s early days we are also pleased our f orward bookings for Hamilton Island flights are trending well and we believe it’s a reflection on the popularity of the destination and the fact that people travelling to this region appreciate assigned leather seating, comfortable legroom and a range of optional extras that gives choice back to the traveller.”
He added, “ We will keep an eye on demand and look at additional route opportunities in and out of Hamilton Island if we determine the support warrants us to commit even more resources to the region.”

Happy holidaymakers aren’t the only ones set to benefit from Virgin Blue’s new direct Hamilton Island flight, with the airline able to uplift three tonnes of freight in addition to a full passenger load. Virgin Blue recognises the importance of freight capabilities for ensuring the freshest supplies and timely delivery to island regions.
Flights into Hamilton Island are expected to bring in fresh produce for restaurants, flowers, mail, newspapers, medical supplies, band equipment, marine spare parts and other goods.
The late morning departure from Brisbane allows Virgin Blue to feed freight from every port in Australia into Hamilton Island overnight and goods from the region can be sent same day to all ports in Australia.
