Pacific Blue Heads For The South Pacific With Vanuatu Service Starting 20 September

15/06/2004

Low Fare Carrier To Launch Direct Flights From Brisbane And Melbourne To Port Vila

Pacific Blue** has announced it will begin flights between Australia and Vanuatu^ as of 20 September from two of the airline’s key hubs, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The low fare airline will be the only carrier to offer a direct weekly flight to Vanuatu from the Victorian capital, as well as offering tourist friendly schedules from the Queensland capital, extending its low fares and award winning service to the South Pacific region for the first time.

To celebrate the airline’s foray into the popular paradise, Pacific Blue has the following special sale fare now available:
Melbourne-Vanuatu one way on the net - A$249*
Brisbane-Vanuatu one way on the net - A$199*

The entry of Pacific Blue is expected to provide a strong tourism boost to Vanuatu, with affordable fares and convenient schedules that will encourage travellers to take the opportunity to not only visit Port Vila on Efate but also the many equally stunning surrounding islands.

Chief Executive Brett Godfrey said, “We are confident this is going to be another winner for both tourism and travellers, with Pacific Blue bringing Australian holiday-makers from not just the East Coast but from all over the country due to our convenient connecting services.”

He continued, “We believe there will be a fantastic economic impact for Vanuatu that will go beyond Port Vila and ripple down throughout the nation’s entire economy.”

For Australians, it means yet another exotic but affordable holiday destination option, with Vanuatu well known for its world class scuba diving, tropical climate and relaxed lifestyle. The country is also famous for its traditional ‘land divers’, whose annual ceremonies became the inspiration for bungee jumping throughout the world.

Convenient Virgin Blue connections are available to Adelaide, Canberra, Sydney and Townsville offering easy transfers between domestic and international flights.

“We have proven here in Australia and more recently in New Zealand, that if you put great fares out there, people will travel to places they have only dreamed of visiting and we are keen to apply that same strategy to the South Pacific. At the end of the day, when it’s a desirable destination and it’s within easy reach both financially and geographically, people are going to seize the moment without seizing up their bank account”.

Flights from Melbourne to Port Vila begin on 20 September and will depart Melbourne on Monday’s at 9.30am, arriving into Port Vila at 2.40pm allowing for a relaxing transfer to the range of top hotels or a convenient connection to the outer Islands. The return flight departs on Tuesdays at 6.45pm and lands back in Melbourne at 10.50pm, allowing a full final day of scuba diving or sun bathing.

The direct flights between Brisbane and Port Vila kick off on 21 September and will fly out of Queensland at 2.20pm every Tuesday, touching down in Port Vila at 6pm while the return flight departs on Monday’s at 3.30pm, arriving back into Brisbane at 5.30pm.

The convenient schedules that avoid early departures and late arrivals ensure that visitors get just as many days as nights out of their holiday.

“The flights to Vanuatu are considered a key part of our growth strategy, with great potential for increasing services if there is strong demand for the initial flights. It’s fair to say this is just the beginning for the South Pacific and we look forward to doing our bit to help more people experience the delights of the entire region,” Brett Godfrey finished.

Pacific Blue will operate the route with modern 737-800 jets which can carry 180 Guests.
