Our Graduate Programs are all about you realising your potential through your experience.
The purpose of the 2 year program is to give you exposure to a broad spectrum of the business, and consists of four, five month rotations (approximately) within your business areas and areas of interest and includes a guest facing placement. You will be provided with opportunities to network, understand interrelationships and develop skills and knowledge to give you a solid foundation as a future leader of Virgin Australia. The success of the program is measured on your placement into an area of interest following the program, ongoing retention and succession into a leadership role.
To set you up for success, each graduate successful in joining the program will be assigned the following:
Throughout the two year program, you will have a Graduate Leader to assist and support you through your Graduate Program. The Graduate Leader has the following accountabilities -
Your Graduate Leader will be a Manager from the business within the area of your Graduate Program.
For each rotation you will have a Rotation Manager who is responsible for your day-to-day work activity. They will be responsible for setting your work, your rotation objectives and identifying areas for development and other training. They will also provide guidance and feedback and conduct a formal performance review with you at the end of your rotation.
Your buddy is likely to be a graduate from a previous year who will help you settle into ‘working life’ and provide you with support and advice throughout the program. Your buddy can also help you link into our broader Graduate network.

The Alliances, Network and Yield Management division is focused on planning, monitoring and implementing strategies to maximise revenue. This division enhances Virgin Australia's market position through our own and partner networks. The Sales division is focused on generating revenues through promotion, sales, and loyalty initiatives; driving our brand and our product in the marketplace to maximise our commercial positioning.
Depending on your degree, rotations could include Revenue and Yield Management, Network Management, Alliances, Velocity, Sales (Corporate and Industry), Guest Contact Centre and E Commerce. Additionally, you will complete a four month guest facing rotation working within an operational area.
To be considered for this stream you will have or will complete in 2012 a general discipline degree such as Business or Commerce, Management, Tourism Management, Aviation Management or similar.
Our Operations group is responsible for ensuring that the work completed within our Commercial and Brand & Customer Service groups comes alive whilst keeping our schedule operating safely and on time. The Operations group is the largest in the business and rotations could include Safety, Engineering, Cabin Crew Systems, Ground Operations and Operations Planning. Additionally, you will complete a four month Guest Facing Rotation working within an Operational area.
To be considered for this stream you will have or will complete in 2012 an Engineering, Aviation Management, Operations Management or similar degree.
The Brand & Customer Experience Group will focus on the customer and will be responsible for the overall "end-to-end" customer experience including brand delivery and insights to create and deliver an exceptional service experience to our guests. Rotations for this area could include Product and Service Development Inflight and Ground, Premium Guest Services, Customer Relations and Lounges.
To be considered for this stream you will have or will complete in 2012 a general discipline degree such as Business, Management, Tourism Management, Aviation Management or similar.
Our Finance team is responsible for the financial analysis, reporting and forecasting for the business. This critical function supports the business and the board in meeting our objectives and the provision of prudent advice on business opportunities. The rotations will give you exposure to a number of key departments within the Finance group and will include Financial Management, Tax and Treasury.
You will also commence your CPA or CA and we will support you with financial assistance, study leave and you can utilise company resources to complete this valuable qualification. Additionally, you will complete a four month Guest Facing Rotation working within an Operational area.
To be considered for this program you will have or will complete in 2012 a degree with an accounting major.
Our People department provides Human Resources and Leadership support by partnering with the business leaders to develop a highly engaged and effective workforce to achieve business success. This occurs through contemporary HR activities with an overall goal of increasing leadership ability. Rotations will include recruitment, payroll, people systems and leadership advisory (HR).
To be considered for this program you will have or will complete in 2012 a degree in Business, Human Resources, Psychology or other relevant discipline.
The marketing department is responsible for the strategy and delivery of a highly effective marketing program whilst ensuring the core values of Virgin Australia are expressed to the guest, the broader public and the travel industry at all times. The Virgin Australia Marketing Communications Division is designed to deliver an insightful, imaginative and commercially focused marketing communications program that inspires, educates and motivates our People, our Partners and our Customers. Rotations could include, brand and product, commercial and partnerships and design.
To be considered for this program you will have or will complete in 2012 a Marketing degree.
Virgin Australia's Information Services Division strives to be a trusted partner delivering technology capability that meets business aspirations. The rotations will give you exposure to a number of key areas within the IT group including IT Operations and IT Delivery. Through these rotations you will gain an understanding of how the different departments provide IT support to the broader business. Additionally, you will complete a four month Guest Facing Rotation working within an Operational area.
To be considered for this program you will have or will complete in 2012 an IT degree.

All programs include a guest facing rotation; the purpose of the rotation is to understand the vital role that guests play in our business and the operational environment – its challenges, resources and stakeholders. The objectives of this rotation include –
You will join a full training school within the operational area to give you the skills to work in a guest facing role (such as Guest Services Agent or Guest Contact Centre Agent). You will also be given a project to be completed in combination with your placement and will be asked to present this to key leaders in the business. You will need to demonstrate initiative and utilise the networks and resources around you. While this rotation differs significantly to your studies, it is an important rotation which will enable you to develop your knowledge of the business, and enhance your ability to understand and respond to operational requirements; all of which are required to form the basis of a successful career at Virgin Australia.
