Charming Launceston is part of the beautiful Tamar Valley, Tasmania’s world class wine region. It will not come as much of a surprise to find many parts of the city and its surrounds specialise in blending the region’s fresh and local food to these renowned cool-climate wines.
Within easy driving distance of the city you can find yourself meandering through the countryside, flying through the treetops, getting to know a Tassie devil at a wildlife park or teeing off at Barnbougle Dunes, one of the best public access courses in the world. You’ll also encounter farm gates where the flavours of the berries, smoked fish, cheeses, honey and chocolates will rival (almost) those of the wines.
To the south and west of Launceston you will find regions that are rich with heritage. Their colonial-era villages and regal homesteads will eagerly share their stories with you.
