Frequently Asked Questions
Why did Virgin Australia acquire Skywest Airlines?
The regional market in Australia is an extremely important focus for Virgin Australia.
We launched a regional network partnership with Skywest Airlines in October 2011; now we will be able to realise the full potential of the operation through developing a more integrated network, service and a consistent frequent flyer proposition for members of Velocity.
Has Skywest Airlines changed its name?
Yes – on 7 May 2013 Skywest Airlines became Virgin Australia, with airports and aircraft to be progressively rebranded over the coming months. The Skywest Airlines operating carrier has been renamed Virgin Australia Regional Airlines Pty Ltd.
How can I make a booking online for a flight operated by Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA)?
Flights for travel on or after 2 August 2013 can be made via the Virgin Australia website.
I have an existing booking made through Skywest Airlines – will there be any changes to my booking resulting from Virgin Australia’s acquisition of Skywest Airlines?
Bookings for travel on or after 2 August 2013 have changed slightly, as they have been rebooked onto Virgin Australia flight numbers. Guests have been notified of their new flight numbers and reservation references, and will have a new itinerary sent to them prior to their departure date. Flight origin, destination, departure and arrival times and dates remain the same.
I want to change a booking originally made through Skywest Airlines – how can I do this?
Bookings for travel on or after 2 August 2013 have been rebooked onto a Virgin Australia flight number and cannot be changed online; to make a change to your booking please call the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre (standard service fees will not be charged).
My itinerary has been rebooked onto Virgin Australia flight numbers – does this change my fare rules?
No – the fare rules for your booking will remain as per the original Skywest Airlines fare rules.
My itinerary has been rebooked onto Virgin Australia flight numbers – does this change my baggage allowance?
Yes – as a result of your itinerary being rebooked onto Virgin Australia flight numbers, you are now entitled to the following checked baggage allowance (whichever is the greater):
- 1 piece of baggage at 23kg per person; or
- the complimentary baggage allowance corresponding to your Velocity membership level at time of travel.
Are there any changes to where I check in for my flight?
Virgin Australia now operates from multiple terminals in Perth, and guests are encouraged to check their itinerary information to confirm their departure / arrival terminals. View more Perth terminal information.
