American Express and Velocity Frequent Flyer launch new $0 annual fee travel rewards credit card19/11/2012
American Express and Velocity Frequent Flyer, the award-winning loyalty program of Virgin Australia, have joined forces to launch the airline’s first $0 annual fee credit card giving Cardmembers the ability to earn Velocity Points on their everyday spending.
In a move set to shake up the travel rewards card market, the partnership means Australians no longer have to pay an annual credit card fee in order to earn Points for their next flight with Virgin Australia or its alliance partners including Etihad Airways, Delta Air Lines, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand.
Members will earn one Velocity Point for every dollar spent on the American Express Velocity Escape Card at an uncapped rate and two points for every dollar spent with Virgin Australia . Benefits also include being rewarded with 7,500 bonus Velocity Points when signing up , which is equivalent to a one way flight from Melbourne to Sydney .
Rachel Stocks, Head of Consumer Products for American Express said, “Travel remains the most popular choice of reward for American Express Cardmembers. The American Express Velocity Escape Card makes earning Velocity Points simple. Every time the card is used members are one step closer to escaping on their next holiday.”
Phil Gunter, General Manager of Velocity Frequent Flyer said, “Through our partnership with American Express, we are able to offer a range of cards with unique benefits so our members can find a card that suits their individual needs. This is the first and only card in the Velocity Frequent Flyer portfolio that has no annual or joining fee and we are excited to be offering such a compelling option to our growing membership base.”
Jeremy Cabral from CreditCardFinder.com.au said, “Rewards cards have generally been associated with annual fees, which can be significant depending on the type of card and the range of benefits and for some, this is a barrier to getting one. Now, everyone can benefit from earning points without any joining or annual fee.
“It’s the type of card you can have in your wallet and use throughout the year, to find that at the end of it, you’ve got a nice sum of points to help pay for your trip or even an upgrade to business class”, said Cabral.
The American Express Velocity Escape Card is the fourth card in the American Express Velocity series. It joins the American Express Velocity Platinum Card, the American Express Velocity Gold Card and the American Express Velocity Business Card. For more information visit: amexvelocity.com.au/escape
