TO THE STARS AND BACK WITH VELOCITY02/02/2009
Virgin Blue’s Velocity is urging travellers to keep their options open for a chance to fly to outer space!
Monday 2 February 2009: Virgin Blue’s multi-award winning Frequent Flyer Program, Velocity, is putting a rocket up the competition (literally) by giving punters a chance to one of four amazing prizes, including a sub-orbital spaceflight with Virgin Galactic^ valued at 25 MILLION Velocity Points, PLUS an additional 25 percent bonus Velocity Points for simply transferring their points from selected credit card partners to Velocity¹.
Unlike other frequent flyer programs currently on offer in Australia, Velocity is committed to giving its Members and the general public a choice on how and to which airline program they wish to allocate their credit card-accrued Points.
Velocity General Manager, Phil Gunter, said the ‘25 Million Velocity Point’ campaign, launched yesterday, is about encouraging consumers not to tie themselves into restrictive direct earn credit cards but to keep their options open.
“Velocity is outstanding in its field having won for the last three consecutive years the ‘Best Award Redemption’ title among all airlines in the Asia Pacific region in the global frequent flyer Freddie Awards.
“Quite simply we want consumers to be aware that they have another option in Velocity which offers more freedom and better value as well as greater reward and redemption choices.
“We fear if people are forced to move from broad programs into direct earn credit cards, as Qantas is trying to do, they will be putting all their eggs into one basket and will lose their freedom to choose where they can spend their Points.
“The bottom line is once people switch to a direct earn credit card they are exposed if they cannot get exactly what they want with that airline. They are also exposed if the airline devalues the points by increasing the number of points required for a reward seat – as Qantas did a few years ago before Velocity launched. Luckily consumers do have a choice and we encourage them to consider all their options.”
As an added incentive to encourage customers NOT to sign up to a direct earn credit card, Velocity is offering 25 percent bonus Points for every Point transferred from selected credit card partners during the promotional period 1 February until 15 April¹.
Upping the anti even further, for every Velocity Point ‘earned’ (including bank transfers or using Velocity program partners and the ShopAndEarn store) between 1 February to 30 June, 2009, customers will receive one entry into the draw to win 25 million Velocity Points which can be redeemed for one of four prizes^:
·A sub-orbital spaceflight with Virgin Galactic;
·His and her Alfa Romeo sports car package;
·The most luxurious holiday package; or
·The ultimate shopping spree
Phil Gunter continued, “I’m pretty confident in saying that a trip to space has never been offered as a consumer prize in the history of the world which shows just how innovative and rewarding Velocity is.”
Launched in November 2005, Velocity revolutionised the way Members redeem Points by offering an ‘any seat’ redemption policy initially on Virgin Blue flights and now with all its partner airlines around the globe – an initiative so refreshing and appreciated by Members that it inspired a revamp of airline loyalty schemes throughout Australia in June 2008.
With over 140 earn partners (including 100 through the ShopAndEarn store) and 40 reward partners offering Point redemption opportunities on everything from domestic and international flights (on our partners Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, Malaysia, Hawaiian, Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue) to flowers, wine and even scooters, Velocity offers Members what they want. Velocity also offers better value - especially through its reward seats. For example a reward seat fare compared to Qantas:
