COME DINE WITH V! V AUSTRALIA TEAMS UP WITH ACCLAIMED AUSTRALIAN CHEF LUKE MANGAN
IN-FLIGHT DELIGHTS - SIGNATURE DISHES TO FEATURE ON V AUSTRALIA MENU
Wednesday 30 September 2009: V Australia is proud to announce celebrity chef and respected restaurateur, Luke Mangan, as its consulting chef to provide International Business Class Guests with specially designed signature dishes during their flights across the Pacific.
From 1 October, the Luke Mangan signature dishes will be included on the “Vistro” menu and will offer two dishes, with wine recommendations to match the meals.
It is the latest enhancement to V Australia’s International Business Class offering, following the recent launch of limo transfers to and from the airport to hotel or home.
Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey, said, “We are excited to have someone of Luke Mangan’s culinary calibre to be consulting and designing meals for V Australia’s in-flight menu. We have been very happy with the feedback we have received regarding the ‘eat what you want, when you want’ menu and meal standards and the inclusion of Luke’s signature dishes will raise the bar even higher.”
The design of in-flight meals requires a range of factors to be taken in to consideration, not least the fact they are being prepared and served at 40,000 feet in an aircraft galley. V Australia’s focus is on serving Guests fresh, tasty, recognisable food with an Aussie touch.
Brett Godfrey added, ‘Luke has an existing relationship with our sister airlines Virgin Atlantic and Virgin America and has used his extensive experience to create dishes that we think will prove hugely popular with V Australia Guests.”
Sir Richard Branson added, “Having enjoyed Luke's food both at his restaurants, on Virgin Atlantic and Virgin America and also when he visited as Guest chef on Necker Island, I can attest to his talent for creating delicious food in whatever environment he is given. I am delighted he will be working with the V Australia team to bring his flair and flavours to their in-flight menu.”
Luke personally consulted with the head chefs from V Australia’s in-flight caterers in both Australia and the USA when designing the dishes.
“I like to source the best local ingredients and showcase them with a clean and contemporary twist,” said Luke Mangan. I want V Australia passengers to have a taste of fresh, modern Australian cuisine while flying over the Pacific”.
V Australia’s Vistro menu rotates regularly to provide variety for the increasing number of repeat Guests who travel on V Australia. The first cycle will feature:
Australia to the United States Luke Mangan recommends
Roasted lamb loin with onion jam, slow roasted tomatoes, potato mash and basil oil
United States to Australia Luke Mangan recommends
Maple roasted chicken breast with roasted pumpkin, bacon and broccolini
For the next 12 months, Luke will continue to design two signature meals per cycle.
Today’s announcement coincides with the delivery of V Australia’s fourth Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in Seattle, with V Australia crew preparing to fly the aircraft back to Australia where it will be put in to service to launch direct flights between Melbourne and Los Angeles as well as direct flights from Brisbane and Melbourne to Phuket, Thailand.
