04/02/2005

Pacific Blue is celebrating one year of flying by announcing the launch of commercial cargo operations across its Trans Tasman and intra Pacific Island network.

The initiative has been welcomed by agents, forwarders, other airlines and suppliers and will provide a competitive alternative to and from Australia, as well as several Pacific ports.

Pacific Blue and Virgin Blue now operate over 100 connecting services a week between New Zealand, Australia, Fiji^ and Vanuatu^, with Virgin Blue operating approximately 300 domestic flights per day.

Freight opportunities will extend between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane direct to Christchurch and Wellington. All consignments lodged by 2pm Monday to Friday from Australia will be delivered to Christchurch and Wellington airport Cargo Terminal Operators (CTO) the following morning. Weekend services also offer Trans Tasman freight opportunities at different times with services to Fiji and Vanuatu provided on different days.

The express clearance of this freight operation is supported through Patrick’s Air Services in Australia and Cargo Port in New Zealand and with the local CTO in the Pacific Islands.

Pacific Blue Freight** General Manager, Max Irvine Brown, said, “The goal for Pacific Blue is to work together with the CTO's to make sure agents have their freight with speed as we recognise the importance of those needs within the industry.”
