More Virgin Blue Flights Between Maroochy And Melbourne

07/07/2004

Low Fare Airline To Go Double Daily Due To Demand

Virgin Blue has announced it will increase the number of flights between the Sunshine Coast and Melbourne after it was identified as one of the most popular leisure routes on the entire Virgin Blue network.

The low fare carrier already flies daily between the two destinations but will ramp up to double daily just in time for the September school holidays.

The decision to increase services is a direct result of ongoing support and huge demand for more flights.

The route has proven so strong that Virgin Blue has re-jigged its schedule to put a temporary solution in place allowing more people to take advantage of great fares and service, with the introduction of an extra flight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6 August taking the route to ten flights per week for the month of August. The route will then be increased to double daily as of 4 September.

The new flight will compliment the existing direct service, meaning that travellers, who have been taking advantage of other flight times via connecting services, will have another direct and more convenient flying option.

Virgin Blue spokesperson Amanda Bolger said, “We always knew the Melbourne-Maroochydore route was going to be a winner as its common knowledge that the Sunshine Coast is one of the preferred playgrounds for Victorians. Melbourne is also proving a big hit with Sunshine Coast shoppers keen to indulge one of Melbourne’s most popular pastimes.”

“We are excited to be in a position to add more seats to a market that is going from strength to strength in both directions as Victorians escape the winter chill by heading north and Queenslanders head to Melbourne to get a taste of winter”.

Fares between Melbourne and Maroochydore start from $115* one-way on the net.

Another key route to benefit from the schedule shuffle is the Gold Coast, with Virgin Blue announcing it will re-time its first direct Melbourne-Gold Coast flight of the day from a 9.00am departure to 7.00am as of 4 September.

It comes in the wake of strong lobbying from the Gold Coast business community after the competition downgraded its business flights from Qantas to Jetstar.

Virgin Blue’s new schedule is ideal for Melbourne based business Guests to fly up to the Gold Coast for the day to attend meetings and the business friendly schedule will be of great benefit in assisting to attract more interstate business people to the brand new Gold Coast convention centre.

Amanda Bolger said, “While the Gold Coast has long been known as one of Australia’s premier tourist destinations, we are also very aware of the region’s burgeoning business market. Virgin Blue is mindful of the need to cater to business Guests who want convenient and affordable flights without compromising on service.”

These schedule enhancements come hot on the heels of Virgin Blue’s busiest month ever to date despite the fact that the airline has been faced with new competition in many markets. We are heartened by this ongoing loyal support from our Guests who clearly appreciate low fares, flexibility and quality service.”

“We are committed to offering even more great deals on a long term basis and making sure we continue to support those regions that support Virgin Blue”, Amanda Bolger finished.
