Virgin Blue In Townsville Terminal Talks20/03/2002
Virgin Blue announced today that it has agreed with Townsville Airport to work with other members of the community and other airlines towards a review of airport expansion plans and associated charges.
Virgin Blue Head of Commercial David Huttner, said, We think this is a great opportunity to ensure that the community gets the facility they need and want, while allowing Virgin Blue to continue offering great low fares, allowing the airport to maintain a reasonable level of profitability and ensuring Virgin Blue does not need to reduce frequencies on this key regional route.
Meetings will be held over the next few weeks between Virgin Blue and Townsville Airport authorities to find an airport upgrade plan that suits all parties.
David Huttner added, We thank Townsville Enterprises, the Airport authorities, Mayor Tony Mooney and other key community members who are working with Virgin Blue to find a win-win solution.
In recognition of the tremendous enthusiasm Virgin Blue has had from the community asking Virgin Blue for its continued support of Townsville, the airline will offer a special $99* sale fare to keep the aircraft full and to allow more people to travel to and from Townsville during the post-Easter lull.
Virgin Blue’s position as Australia’s only low fare airline and its commitment to the low cost model ensures the airline is in a position to offer these one-off fares wherever feasible, to provide extra-affordable air travel for those who would otherwise not be able to fly or fly often.
The $99* fare between Townsville and Brisbane is on sale now and is available on selected flights for travel from April 8 to May 30.
The Virgin Blue team is also committed to reviewing its schedule in coming months to determine any opportunity to optimise the movement of aircraft, to ensure that Townsville gets a product in the future that better meets the needs of the crucial business community.
