Virgin Blue Guests Now Enjoying Domestic Bliss
Flight DJ271 from Melbourne to Perth landing at 8.20am this morning will be the first Virgin Blue service to taxi to the airline’s new home at Perth Domestic Airport.
The low fare carrier launched services to Perth a year ago, using the International Terminal as a temporary home to make sure the people of Western Australia had access to low fares.
Following months of negotiations, Westralia Airports Corporation have reached an agreement with the administrators of the facility, effectively paving the way for Virgin Blue to begin operating out of the Common User Terminal (former Ansett terminal).
The new facility offers Guests larger, more modern conveniences and more efficient processes, with the number of check-in desks doubled from 4 to 8, meaning shorter queues and faster check in during peak periods.
Virgin Blue will have the option to use an aerobridge during bad weather but will also use front and back stairs for people to board and disembark on sunny days in line with all other ports across the country. This will allow the airline to maintain its outstanding on time performance record.
The move from the International to the Domestic terminal comes just in time for Christmas travellers to enjoy and only days ahead of the launch of Virgin Blue’s direct Perth – Brisbane services, beginning Thursday 12 December.
The more spacious facilities will also compliment Virgin Blue’s enhanced flight schedule which includes increased services between the Western Australian capital and Melbourne and Sydney.
Virgin Blue CEO, Brett Godfrey said, “People want low fares all year round, not just at off-peak times that suited the airlines in the past. By securing excellent facilities at a reasonable price, Virgin Blue can continue to offer travellers affordable airfares and outstanding service.”
He added, “Today’s move means we have more room to grow, more room to accommodate Guests comfortably and efficiently and more opportunities for low fares for the people of Western Australia. It’s particularly timely given we are fast approaching one of the busiest periods of the year for travellers and they will now reap the benefits of a fantastic new terminal facility at Perth Airport.”
The last flight from the Perth International Terminal departed last night for Melbourne at 11.30pm with Virgin Blue team members working through the night to ensure everything is ready to welcome Guests arriving at the new facility at 8.20am.
The final stage in the national terminal relocation project will be completed when Virgin Blue moves from the Domestic Express Terminal in Sydney to T2 (former Ansett terminal) on Thursday December 12.
