Virgin Blue Launches New Round Of Low Fares
Virgin Blue is flying in the face of fears that low fares will disappear following the demise of Impulse Airlines, today announcing a special $48 one way offer to celebrate the upcoming launch of the Melbourne-Adelaide route.
Australia's only low fare airline is celebrating both its newest route, Melbourne-Adelaide, as well as the arrival of the first of 14 of the airline's brand new Next Generation 737-700 aircraft.
The Melbourne-Adelaide service kicks off on May 17, with three direct daily flights between the two key cities.
The $48 for 48 hours special runs from midnight Friday May 4 until midnight Sunday May 6 and is for travel from May 17.
Chief Executive Brett Godfrey said, "Both Virgin Blue and low air fares are here to stay. We came into the Australian market with a long term strategy, we haven't deviated from that strategy which means we will continue to offer these ad hoc low fare specials as well as our every day low fares, for a long time to come."
"Virgin Blue has committed to $1.1-billion worth of new aircraft to be phased in over the next 18 months, if that isn't testimony to our commitment to providing travellers with a permanent low fare option, then what is?"
The current lack of competition on the Melbourne-Adelaide route means it is around the same price to travel between Adelaide and Melbourne as it is to fly from either city to Brisbane which is double the distance.
Brett Godfrey continued, "there is no doubt that the aviation industry is going through a turbulent time but our priority is to continue ensuring great deals and genuinely friendly service for both leisure and business travellers. We have always had the lowest cost base of any airline in the country, we are a true low fare carrier and we are hopeful the public will continue to support us so we can expand our route network to even more destinations."
Virgin Blue is excited to offer increased choice to Victorian and South Australian guests, with both cities offering the best in fashion, food and wine as well as bustling business markets.
